The same record store owner tells me he is getting lots of Japanese customers coming in for '80s and '90s funk like Prince, Ready for the World, Klymaxx, Cameo type funk that's really popular in Japan. He gets record collectors from Japan coming in his two stores all the time for that stuff.

I schlepped 2000 records from my living room to the bedroom last night. Fucking painting day. And once it's done I've got to schlep those 2000 back and move the other 2000 out. Fucking hell.
Made me realize I've really got to thin the herd. I keep saying that I should sell on discogs but between working full-time and parenting and being generally a slack bastard I'm not sure I've got it in me.
Part of me thinks it could be a part-time gig when I'm retired. Then I remember that I live in the USA in the 21st century and that I'll die on the job and that retirement is a pipe dream.
My back wants me to go all digital but damn I moved some terrific records around yesterday!

My back wants me to go all digital but damn I moved some terrific records around yesterday! I did a hardcore cull about 6 or 7 years ago, and am thankful I did. I said goodbye to all of those random thrift store finds that I never listened to; goodbye to the fourth-and-fifth best albums by bands I didn't even really like that much in the first place; goodbye to the records I'd had hanging around for over a decade that I hadn't tried listening to since buying them in the first place... I could still cull a few more, but my collection makes me so much happier now that it's comprised almost entirely of things I really like a lot. Oh, and I didn't bother going the discogs route; I just hauled my culled records down to my local for store credit.

Now they're all splayed out in all their shameful bulk it seems all the more obvious. I'm gonna have to go back to the shop and say, "Mark, will you guys buy back your dollar bin for pennies on the dollar in store credit, please?" All part of the hobby, I suppose. There are a few crazy valuable records I have NO interest in at all, though (David Allen Coe, I'm looking at you). I might tip my toe into discogs for those.

Never Argue with a German when you're tired Dept.
Got this this morning:
I immediately gave him a full refund (it was a £20 album) and he didn't even fucking open it! 'Inadequate packaging' means customized 12" card envelope with two corrugated cardboard stiffeners, exactly the same as I have used, to universal acclaim, in sending records not only to Germany, but also, among others, to Indonesia, Peru, South Korea, Russia, Canada and other uncivilized places without a murmur of dissent or any comment other than praise. Either this guy is a super-nutter (love his X-Ray vision) or those Bavarian posties are the meanest mailman mofos on the planet. Sheesh. I'm looking forward to getting it back to see what exactly they did to it. On the other hand, the positive feedback and new orders continue to roll in.

Tiny ding in the envelope: the record, and sleeve, in absolutely perfect condition within. Fucking hysterical nitwit

A mate of mine uses pizza boxes for sending records..which means he has a good excuse to order lots of pizzas. It is a worry sending stuff. I've got an 80 quid Royal Doulton vase flying out to Wisconsin as we speak. I can't wait for it to arrive safe.

In the last few days, I've sold, among other things, a Dolly Parton album for £70, a dance 12" single by Congress for the same, a Jam album for £90, a Funky 4+1 CD for £20, and a 12" single by Demented Are Go (no, me neither) for £37. Dog bless record collectors.

Dog bless record collectors. I've given myself a 3-5 year time span where if I don't use something, I chuck it out. I just gave 1,000+ CDs to a co-worker because all they were doing was taking up space in my storage closet. I cherry picked some to keep, but it was seven big, brown cardboard boxes filled with CDs. I told him, "You don't know what you're getting yourself into," but he was happy to get them.

Some trumpet-blowing, without apologies: closing in on 1,000 orders, more than 600 feedbacks, 100% positive: latest " Wonderful seller, perfectly described and graded and spot on packaging. This is how discogs should be. Many thanks for a fantastic buying experience"
