I thought the buyer picked up Discogs' fees but I've just checked my account - not obviously on the 'dashboard' and no notifications - and it looks like I'm going to be invoiced a few quid on the 5th of next month just for allowing them to list my CDs.
Hm.

Hm. not for listing them - you are only charged for the ones sold

Pretty standard for any listing site to charge fees for selling, it"s how they make their money.

Of course, but I thought the buyer picked it up, like I say. Never mind.

and I've noticed that if I edit the info on some items, then I get more offers.
Is this what they call 'relisting'? I know it's frowned upon - but if I leave everything for weeks then I don't get any offers!

I know it's frowned upon - but if I leave everything for weeks then I don't get any offers! I'm not sure how it works, but I think that, if you change something - particularly the price or the grade – in the same way as you list it for the first time, anyone who has it on their Wants list gets a notification. That said, I find that if there's a quiet period for orders, putting a dozen or so more up for sale tends to stimulate interest, not only in the new stuff, but also the back catalogue. But human brains are designed to extract pattern from chaos, so maybe I'm imagining cause and effect in what is essentially a random series of events. I didn't know that 're-listing' is frowned on per se as I've had to relist things because the sale has broken down, or I made a mistake in the original listing, although I have read some negative comments on feedback (not mine, still 100% at well over 700 votes ) that sellers have said something is unavailable, then relisted it at a higher price when they realized it had been undervalued. Again, whether this is actually what happened or not, I can't say. What is your discogs ID, John?

Isn't that set automatically? I'll have a look Only if you ask it to. Basically, you need to lay things out in your sellers' terms. Here's mine, as a general guide (although postage rates will be going up next month, and how much you charge for packaging depend on what you use. "All records are sent in poly bags in custom-made card envelopes with stiffeners, which may increase the weight of the package above that given by discogs. Although I believe that my packaging regimen means that discs cannot move about in transit and cause seam splits, I always ship 12" discs outside the sleeve, in a paper inner if the disc was issued without an inner sleeve.I always ship first class (UK) and Air Mail (rest of world). For some more expensive items I set initial shipping for Signed For (UK) or International Tracked and signed. Whichever is chosen, I always give the buyer the option of switching. If you have any special shipping requirements in terms of packaging and shipping, please let me know when you order, rather than after I have invoiced and paid. Buyer pays postage and packing. For large vinyl (10" & 12") UK - 1st class one item £4.30, two items £4.70. Any more than two, please ask. For signed for / recorded delivery, add £1 European Union countries - Air Mail one item £7.20, two items £8.80. Any more than two, please ask.* Rest of the World** - Air Mail one item £9.50, two items £12.50. Any more than two, please ask.*
For small vinyl (7") UK first class large letter - one or two items £2.30, 3 items £2.70. Any more, please ask. For signed for / recorded delivery, add £1. European Union - one or two items £4.85, three items £5.70. Any more, please ask.* Rest of the World** - one or two items £5.75, three items £8. Any more, please ask.*
CDs and CD/DVD boxes - generally, postage plus 50p packaging to all destinations, but as they come in in all shapes and sizes, please ask.
* NOTE. International tracked and signed is available on overseas Air Mail orders to most countries for an extra £4.50. ** Postal costs slightly higher to Australia"

OK, thanks. Not sure I can be fucked with all that, but it makes sense if you're a major seller like yourself.
I tried to edit the shipping rates for the UK alone but it opened up all sorts of boxes and I'm not altogether sure of weights and rates and ETAs and all the rest.
I've made three sales, if nothing else comes of this the charity shop can have the lot.

Three orders over this last weekend!
I find that buyers don't always respond to messages I send. This isn't necessarily a problem, but I just charged £2 for standard shipping to the UK for a CD, and asked the buyer to add £2 extra if he wanted it sent registered post. No response, but Paypal just informed me that he'd paid £2 - so of course I assumed he was OK with standard mail.
But then in the email I get from Discogs there's something about the item being 'eligible for seller protection' and a note for me to make sure I send it 'trackable'. WHAT?!?
On top of that, the same email says he paid £20, but Paypal says only £19.12 was transferred. What's all that about?
