I liked A, but it's not B

The kind of thing I'm hearing in B appeals more as I get older. There's probably a story behind it, that soulful voice, the melancholy
but A is a long-standing fave, probably my favourite from the band, and an easy win here

B is lovely, but its appeal is slightly limited by the twin barriers of language and time. Case for the proverbial "further investigation," however. I know something of Jara's story - he quite literally gave his life for his music - but don't really know the music well. I'm not sold but I'm intrigued.
A is one of my favorite songs by a band I've been getting more and more into in recent times. They were something special, I'm realizing.

The Ruts are one of the few punk bands I still really care about. This still sounds as charged and urgent as ever. Like Hatz, I know something of Jara's story, without being very familiar with the music. I absolutely loved B. It makes most of the selections in this round seem flimsy and superficial in comparison. It was stately, dignified and very moving.
Best tie in this round by a mile. I'm going B

B was nice but you do feel you are missing out not knowing the words. A starts off really well but I'm not sure about the chorus.
Sorry B but...

I never really understand the standing of The Ruts amongst some punk fans, I think it's the vocals that annoy me most, and I get a kinda Boomtown Rats vibe from them generally, like on the chorus here. When not in the chorus, it's quite good, there's a bit of Sally Cinnamon about the bassline, and a those guitar clicks and squeaks are similar to what Daniel Ash was doing with Bauhaus at the same time. It's just lacking that bit of energy, or a more engaging vocalist.
Ooh, folky fingerpickings! I wish I knew what he was singing, because this is quite lovely indeed. There's no denying that, whatever the words may be, he sings this song like it means the world to him. About time we had some folk in the cup, especially when it's unknown to me, and this good. Great pick.

While I agree that Malc and his skag habit were the weak link in this band, the rest of them were a cut above, I think, and well-produced, too. I hoovered up their stuff back in the day, and while there are others I like a bit better – Babylon's Burning for one, and the B-side of this, H-Eyes, for another, this is an excellent track with a sharp edge to the sound. 6.5 / 10 Well of course I know who he is, and you can't disdain anyone who literally died for his art and beliefs, but... Some pretty guitar and a heartfelt vocal, sure, and the Lover's Tongue always tends to sound seductive, but... I don't understand 90% of the anglophone lyrics I hear, but... 6 / 10

Guests don't get to vote, do they? It's like 1973 all over again for Jara. The people must be heard!
