Monty Python and the Holy Grail is about as funny as someone standing on your shoe.

Both of these are great and can still make me chuckle, despite their overexposure over the years. The Two Ronnies sketch is more original and more of a one off, and they both perform it so seamlessly and dead pan ..which really helps it work I think. A

Is it just me who HATED the Two Ronnies, growing up with them, and now really enjoys them?

Is it just me who HATED the Two Ronnies, growing up with them, and now really enjoys them? I didn't hate them. I enjoyed them, along with the rest of the country ( simpler times back then), but I guess I did think of them as being quite safe and mainstream. It's only now that I see how clever they were as comic performers. There's no real equivalent to them today, people like Whitehouse and Enfield are talented, but don't have the same ...I don't know, professionalism maybe. There was a real discipline to what they did.

A is a very well-plotted sketch with virtuoso delivery, but once you get the joke it starts to go on a bit. I would have liked it at about half the length.
B is a good example of Python's anarchic wildness, best in snack size, like this. Might be helped a bit by more context, but I still get more of a sense of personality from it than I do A.

A
One of my favorite Two Ronnies skits
They actually showed The Two Ronnies late at night on public television here in the US.

A is a masterclass of wordplay and comic timing. It's The Two Ronnies at their best, I loved the pause on the Dean Martin question.
I won't accept criticism of The Holy Grail, it's right up there with Life of Brian at times. Watery bints distributing scimitars, and all that. But it can't win here, sadly.

Is it just me who HATED the Two Ronnies, growing up with them, and now really enjoys them? The problem now is that they've been curated to death. You forget how tiresome they were, how much drivel there was after the newsreader opening, the sheer horror of the comedy song bit. I defer to no-one in my appreciation of Ronnie Barker's talents as a writer and actor, but I also recall how poor some of those shows were.
