Carol's son plays bass in a death metal band also called Pariah. They're good.

Anyone have thoughts on the new album by Low, Double Negative? It's a huge change for them - it sounds very little anything they've done before. The tracks are all heavily processed soundscapes, with voices buried under effects in the mix. It's a challenging record, one that is sure to alienate many, but it's one that you'll find yourself lost inside if you stick with it. Reminds me a little of Throbbing Gristle. I like it! I suspect you may also have some time for Body/Head's newest album, The Switch; this is Kim Gordon's current project. I like it a lot, though it's a *challenging* listen that is easy to dismiss (I'm not under the illusion that everyone should - or even could - like it):

Has anyone else listened to Swamp Dogg's new album, Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune? It's a lot better than it could have been (though I don't see it ever making its way into regular rotation for me). He- and this seems destined to get an immediate "ugh, no," but just stick with me here - apparently got very into Kanye West's production style, and started really playing around with auto-tune. And... it actually works? He uses auto-tune as just another effects pedal, ranging from imperceptibly subtle, to heavily-processed and otherworldly, rather than (the more common popular use) as a same-sounding tool to have him sing in tune. The standout track for me is this cover of a Nat "King" Cole tune - it's got a really great arrangement, and the way the tone of his voice shifts throughout the song keeps it interesting - though there are a few other gems on it:

I'm really digging the new album by Kossisko, Low. Here's a song off it.

That Swamp Dogg is on my list of stuff to check out. It's only 36 minutes long!

It's playing right now. That Swamp Dogg - what a nut. Like with a lot of his stuff I can't always tell if he's being serious or joking around - not in that stupid-ass Frank Zappa way but in that "i've seen some shit" Swamp Dogg kind of way.

Two live performances of songs from The Comet is Coming's Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery, my favourite album of the year so far. Granted I've only really listened to about 4 of them but I'd be very pleasantly surprised if it doesn't make my top 10 at the end of the year. Heavy layers of electronics and Krautrock-style drumming and Shabaka Hutchings (from Sons of Kemet) being utterly relentless with a saxophone over the top.
