Two days to go!
I think I'll probably uninstall facebook if there's a Tory majority - such will be the apoplectic outrage on there. I've already had to unfollow anyone who posts memes or pointless articles written by "The London Economic" for example.
I'm meeting up with a load of friends on Sunday and they are ALL lefties with probably one exception. It's going to be painful.

There's been an increasingly hysterical and unpleasant edge to some of the stuff I've seen recently on Facebook. The attacks on the Rabbi for example (Tory scum) were fucking disgraceful. The us v them, you're either with us or against us shit is typical but unedifying. If rumours are true the next Labour leader is being lined up.
I reckon it'll be a Tory majority and larger than some predict but after Trump and Brexit I wouldn't rule out a hung parliament either. The Tories might regret picking Boris.

I've hidden many friends' posts from my Fb feed - even the ones I tend to agree with. It's all so fucking dull and simplistic and they don't seem to be aware how thick they appear. Do some thinking before you post, for fuck's sake.
Did you see Boris driving that BCB through the wall today? That absolutely creased me up. He's an arse but you have to laugh.
Life goes on, you know? We're not all going to drown in the English Channel when Brexit happens. Get some perspective.

It’s just people posting shit to impress mates and get a virtual pat on the back That’s all any of it is.

I will never vote Tory whilst there’s a hole in my arse I was going to start a thread about that one, actually, but figured people were already fed up of the subject. Didn't you grow up in that kind of environment, D? That the Tories were the personification of evil? Genuine question. I did. It sort of interests me. Communities and social groups who see the Conservative Party as self-serving and heartless. Thatcher closed down all the mines in my area (OK, that's a bit of a simplification, but really not TOO much of one) and this 'never vote Tory' line is something you hear very often where I live. And I have some sympathy with it.

Not that bad.
My parents aren’t political people. Like a lot of working class voters they voted out of class loyalty. The only political thing they ever taught me was that if you were working class you voted Labour because they were for the “working man” and that’s it. Bear in mind the whole poll tax thing was fairly recent as well so there was also a “Tories are anti-Scots” feeling that existed growing up so you had the class element and the national element combined. The SNP are still exploiting this years later because these things run deep of course.
I know people who despise the Tories and who think they are basically “evil”. In some ways I can understand that. They are people who exist on sickness benefits and who are far left. I can understand some old miner being like “fuck these cunts forever”. I get that. It’s an emotional thing. We all have our lines. But…..they aren’t “evil”. They aren’t sat round a table puffing on cigars and coming up with some grand plan to destroy the working classes. They just have a different perspective on these things. Yeah you may have issues with that perspective but they aren’t fucking evil you daft, daft cunts. A few years ago I wrote an angry email to some Tory due to his filibustering in parliament and he replied and you know what? He was very nice! And funny! He read my bile and replied in a mature way. Hey, maybe he’s not such a massive cunt after all Dougie! Maybe YOU were being a bit of a cunt. Fuck! Ding, ding!
I’m seeing shit on Facebook where people are comparing the Tories to the Nazi party. The other day, some BCBer posted summat where he said Boris Johnson had now joined his list of most hated politicians ever alongside Thatcher…..Hitler and Pol Pot! I mean somebody pulled them up on it and he retracted it but.....
At some point, surely to Christ, you grow up past this nonsense but many people don’t (look at yer Owen Jones’s). On the contrary, they take pride in it! They take pride in being the same as they were when they were 17. Like there is something noble about it. Like they had all the answers at that age. The world isn’t that simple even if you would like it to be so. I know I have endless digs at the left but this binary, Us v them, Good v Evil shit is so common and it’s retarded but if you haven’t moved past that by a certain age then you never will (on the contrary, people seem to get worse as they get older, more intractable, more conspiratorial).
