The irony there is he doesn't change it that much! It's a very non-Chic-like Chic song.

That's pretty good, although old Fats doesn't sound like he's that into it. In terms of unlikely Beatles covers I always come back to Jumior Parker hypnotic take on 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. I bought the vinyl album purely on the attraction of the sleeve and discovered this wonderful cover.

I bought the vinyl album purely on the attraction of the sleeve and discovered this wonderful cover. Neither of these is particularly "unlikely" (Lewis covered pretty much everything in this time period, and if Sonic Youth were going to cover one Beatles song, well, this was among maybe five possibilities), but both are pretty great:

I love the Dear Prudence cover, what a great sounding tack. John's favourite Charles Weetabix ia producing of course.

That whole Ramsey Lewis album is top drawer.

That whole Ramsey Lewis album is top drawer. And who thought the Isley Brothers would do such a good covers album too with Givin' It Back. I used one of the songs in the BCB covers cup and it got a rousing response.

Soft Cell's take on Hendrix is all sorts of unlikely fun. In particular, Almond is oddly suited to Hey Joe with its feverish, slightly preposterous, melodrama.

Bump, because G was unfairly overlooked with his rare excellent song choice, and that this thread surely has more life in it?

The other thing I meant to highlight was the way Dave Ball captures the expressionist spirit of Hendrix's guitar by really warping and distorting his synth lines.
