The Vines – HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The “new Kurt Cobain”. HAHAHAHAHAHA Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out was actually good. The debut was pretty decent as well but it went downhill very quickly. Arcade Fire – they are still pretty big. I’m sure they could sell out Madison Square Gardens for example. The debut was a cracker and they’ve done some good stuff since (Sprawl II) but I can’t be arsed with a whole album The Streets – the second is a minor classic. I actually saw him live. I AM NOT ASHAMED Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs – It’s Blitz was good. I really like Maps. Camera Obscura – the last album was a disappointment but the previous two were excellent and two of the better albums of that period. A lot of charm. Scissor Sisters – I quite liked Filthy Gorgeous. Elton John bigged them up which is the kiss of death Dizzee Rascal - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Dungen – I remember the name but can’t remember the music. Swedish psych no? Arctic Monkeys (I think Pink Floyd put out albums faster) – Weren’t they the best band in the world for, like, 5 minutes or summat? I suspect most of the fans of the first couple of albums couldn’t give a shit these days.

Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out was actually good. The intro to Take Me Out is really good, I never understood why it starts off like they're playing a more interesting song. Is there any rationale for that? The actual song is clunky as hell. Btw, Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps" is awesome. I bought the album a couple of weeks ago for a quid, just for that song.

Is there any rationale for that? The actual song is clunky as hell. I quite like the song ( one of about 2 or 3 decent tracks they had), the false intro is a really effective way of introducing that riff (and it is a good riff). FF were a line in the sand for me. They emerged at a time when I was still engaged with new music. The hype did attract me - interesting, arty image (constructivist graphics!) and a quirky, jerky sound like Gang Of Four produced by Niles Rodgers (...or so I hoped!). But I quickly found there wasn't much substance there, their songs were pretty ordinary, it was a thin idea stretched out, all very workmanlike. I've been resistant to hyped new bands ever since.

Weren't JET from Australia? OH GOD, they were shit! What was that damn song of theirs that was on every commercial for a year or two? For some reason, I always think of Starsailor when I think of them, even though they didn't really sound anything alike. I blame them for Spector going all murdery.

People hated them on the Mojo board and BCB. I like that one album of theirs. I think it's really good. I think they were more in my wheelhouse and not yours or folks your age as much.

At least he was bringing a UK perspective to hip-hop and not faking being American or trying to be a hybrid. Dizzee Rascal - I'm not a huge fan of fast rappers, like Twista. I thought his approach was interesting, I just didn't dig it that much. Dungen - yes, Swedish psych Arctic Monkeys - Like the side project, Last Shadow Puppets better.

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl"...ugh...Sadly, there were others doing their shtick much better...Short commerical version:

I like and still like the first three Starsailor albums. I think its the other way around Spector ruined Starsailor.

I love the intro and the messy rest of the song. Love the guitar riff great hook. Most of that first album is good Jacqueline and This Fire, Michael and Darts of Pleasure.

What about The Datsuns. Aussie? They did AC/DC better than AC/DC. Pretty good in my book. The Datsuns are from New Zealand, and "Harmonic Generator" was a pretty good song

They are now more power pop or psych pop.

Yes early Datsuns were crazy. Saw them open two nights for Brendan Benson and White Stripes at the Bowery Ballroom. saw them a few times after they mellowed but still pretty good although haven't heard anything new in years.
