It's nice to see, actually. Soul usually gets a free pass around here Yeah DF, Dayodead and Fonz are renowned for lavishing praise on 70s soul normally!
Anyway, I'm not knocking them for it, just pulling their legs.
I will of course remind you of your comments when your future soul selection gets slagged off!

And Rayge! Don't forget Rayge! Particularly if it's funk with flute.

I know, I picked the most UnRayge category I could think of!

This is a great tie as I really like both tracks. TVZ has been very slow to grow on me but I am coming to realize he’s really devastatingly good sometimes. A – My only problem with this track is, with a “message” song you have to sound like you mean what you’re singing, which I don’t think is the case here. Which is a pity, because it could have been a classic. B – So it’s raining outside and there’s nothing to do except huddle in a cabin and drink stump liquor and listen to Townes Van Zandt until the bus comes. It could be worse!

I found it hard to take A seriously, because after the intro that reminded me more of something from 'Jesus Christ Superstar' than anything, I couldn't stop chuckling thinking about how the meaning of the word 'dope' has changed over the years.
B has long been a favourite, although I haven't listened to it in several years. At first glance it seems inconsequential, but the lyric really does have a stark power to it.

Don't know either of these
A Oh fucking hell it's Seventies 'Soul'. Nothing like as good as King Heroin or even the wildly over-rated Pusherman - oh fuck, this really is a bucket of warmed-over cliches and gush. Sly Stone might have been great, but the band's legacy, along with pre-chocalate salty balls Isaac Hayes, has a lot to answer for. I listened to it all, and - well, hate is too strong a word - moderately resented it.
B A song featuring a barking dog. I like that. Better than the song, in fact. But it doesn't make my lip curl like the other thing.

I had to step away and do some actual work believe it or not before I got the chance to vote, and now I find A is lodged firmly in my brain. Good enough for me. I vote A.
