My sister's 'Family Album' or whatever is on R2 right now. The first song is Joel's excruciating 'Piano Man' so I don't think I can hold out much longer even tho' I promised I'd give it a listen (there are four or five more songs!). Maybe a tonic and gin would help.

Got the whole week off. Tonight, the ex and daughter are coming over and I'm BBQing lamb burgers. It's California in late November.

It's amazing how much power these people have to make or ruin your day. I don't even know why that is. I think this is especially true in the age of call centres in far off countries, or automated messages that help no one. I e-mailed some salesperson in Germany, because I wasn't able to open some software that I needed for work. It was a last ditch attempt to solve the problem, because the real problem was that the person who used it before me as since moved on and I think he took the registration key with him... or something.
Anyway, they started by being really helpful, and offered to give me a license key for free... but I needed to go through some technical steps to get it working. It was beyond me. I e-mailed again asking for more help, because I wasn't getting it. Then this guy Darren replies, asking if I want to just call him for a chat. He is procrastinating and doesn't feel like doing his other work at the moment. I couldn't take him up on that, and I haven't been able to get back to the problem for a couple of days because I've been out of the office. But meantime I'm getting e-mails like this
"How'd you go? I figure you've probably got a few things on at the moment, but if you need any tech support, I'll be in the office for another 2 hours and 20 minutes. After that point, the mistress of the weekend beckons me in to her seductive arms, and I'm powerless to resist. She frees me just in time to return on Monday, until luring me again as our dance throughout the year continues.
It really feels like a Friday at the moment. Like 200% Friday. I hope you're having a good one, though.
Cheers,
Darren"
I really didn't know what to say to that.

I don't know if obliging that sort of request counts as good or bad customer service.

94539 is the south east end of the town I live in. 94010 is the zip code town my dad grew up in. Seven of the ten locations are in the SF Bay Area.

I was talking the sales manager in the cubicle next to me about kids. He has a daughter who's almost two and he said, "She's still cute."
I laughed.

For breakfast this morning, my son had two slices of pizza, a bowl of beef stew and a bagel sandwich with ham, cheese and sprouts.

Sprouts? Is he on a health kick or something? He just likes 'em. Tastes like someone put hair in your sandwich, but whatever.

On the way back to work from lunch, I was listening to an interview with classical conductor, Michael Tilson Thomas. Seemed he'd accompanied James Brown on his Sex Machine tour and told how much he learned about conducting and staying in the moment from Brown.

My son may look like a man, but the first thing he goes to each morning is the advent calendar I bought him last weekend to get his piece of chocolate.

Had my first interview for a History teacher job today. Would be a real good start as it's an Outstanding state school with a C of E basis. Kids were intelligent, behaved and well mannered. It's also a 25 minute walk from my house so I'd be super stoked if I got it.
