where is the Indian curry going sir please on your 'international food rankings'? sorry
It has gone down a little over the years as my tastes have changed. In terms of Asian foods I would maybe rank Japanese above it but on a par with Thai. But then it’s such a huge cuisine with so many regional variations you are only really scratching the surface. I mean it’s as good as any cuisine at its best and a good curry with all the side dishes is heavenly. I’ve been thinking about going back to India again recently and if I did I would go back and do a food tour of a region. Try all the street food, go to some decent restaurants, the whole nine yards. Like one those Keith Floyd shows!
how often do you eat curry? when you do, what do you go for?
I eat it more than I used to because I’m quite happy to have one of the curry’s in a jar. The Patak’s extra creamy tikka masala is good and my default! I occasionally get a takeaway from a place called Guatam’s which is a cut above your usual takeaway’s these days but I can’t recall what I go for. I like to experiment a bit more these days whereas for years it would always be a tikka masala or a korma because I love creamy, coconut based curries.
do you have a favourite curry restaurant? have you eaten a very very good curry in a restaurant recently? where?
I think the last time was my 40th birthday actually and it was a place called Navadhanya which was very good, posh Indian restaurant. The last decent place I’ve been was Dishoom.
do/can you cook curry at home? how do you make it? do you have any CURRY SECRETS?
Nah, I don’t. I honestly can’t be arsed these days as I’m pretty lazy with cooking at the moment.
