I’ve never dieted before but I’m giving it a go. I’d like to lose half a stone, maybe more (I’m a bit mad because technically I’m not even overweight and my BMI is literally right in the middle of the thingie BUT my tummy is getting fatter and I don’t like it!!! So there!!!).
So I’m largely cutting out carbs (bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, cakes, biscuits etc) apart from a very small bowl of muesli in the morning and I’m trying to stick to around 1000-1200 calories a day (I’m a woman in case you didn't know). If it doesn’t work, or I just can’t stand it anymore I might try the 5:2 diet.
I’m getting used to feeling hungry most of the time and ocassionally ravenous before meals. Weirdly, I quite like it 😬
Have you ever dieted? What diets have you tried? Did they work? Did you give up (if so why?)? Did you reach your goal but put it all back on again? Would you like to diet but can’t face it? Do you think you need to diet but don’t care? Etc etc

You might get a reply before the weekend, M OH - I just replied! well, there you go! No, never dieted. Probably should, but...I dunno. It would mean a significant loss.

Doing intermittent fasting, working a treat if I'm being honest. Highly recommend it.

It’s not too bad apart from the CHEEEEEESE which calls my name in the night. I do eat a very small amount of black chocolate too. MY GOD it tastes amazing when it’s the only really bad sweet thing you eat!!! I think most of time we just stuff our faces without really appreciating or tasting what we eat. When you diet just the smallest amounts of bread, cake, pasta etc taste incredible and we savour every mouthful!!! The smell of my husband’s toast in the morning is killing me though. He’s trying to PUT ON weight 😡

In my head it always seems like the easiest thing. You know, 'oh, just don't eat a bar of chocolate tonight! you can do it!' - but of course in reality it doesn't happen. It's terrible, but...it's just not easy. At all.
It's a bit like saving money, I suppose, in that it's over the long term, and often the VERY long term, that you see positive outcomes. And most people don't have the staying power.

I have several dietary restrictions (nothing serious) and I am also, like your husband, would like to put on a few pounds. Anyway, one thing I have changed in the last couple of years, because of some of those restrictions, is my use of salt. I cook 99.5% of my own meals and cook only for myself, so, I control what goes in there. If you are trying to limit a bit of abdominal bloating, then that might be something to consider. I personally have not cut it out entirely. I have just diminished my use of it to only where it counts. Can't be a bad thing in any case.

Doing the 16/8, not the fasting days malarkey. Nope try to ate healthy, still drinking beer. Eating whatever you want is a myth when doing this. I also go to the gym in some shape or form 6 or 7 days a week.

And most people don't have the staying power. Yeah the losing it part isn’t actually that terrible if you accept that you will HAVE to accept being hungry sometimes (or even most of the time) and I think that dieting actually changes your perception of food… you just cannot believe that you used to eat a WHOLE bar of chocolate 😱 and the cravings do tail off. (Hark at me, the expert who’s never dieted before and doesn’t even really need to lose weight). I reckon I’ve got the will power to lose the weight I want to (I’ll just bloody stop eating if I have to) but keeping it off… well… that’s a different matter isn’t it. And as you get older your metabolism really slows down too. And I read the most disturbing thing about how when a woman’s estrogen levels drop off the body REDISTRIBUTES fat away from some areas of the body (like our bums) and dumps it all in our tummies!!! WTF!!! (So that explains why over the last 5 years or so my tummy is getting bigger but I’ve not actually put on any weight). Anyway, I’ll probably give up next week 🤪

I have read a few articles about how weight training and muscle building really helps to burn fat, whereas cardio for weight loss is largely a waste of time. Stick with it Markus!

That's why I did not eliminate it entirely. I just try to limit my use of it where it counts, not just willy-nilly as before. Anyway, just a thought.

I'm coming off of two weeks vacation and over-indulgence, and, well, it's more than that I suppose...too much beer in general, too much food in general (I have to cut down on portion sizes and avoid second helpings), so I have unofficially started a diet for the next two weeks at least (until my birthday). I'm pretty good at not snacking during the day - even if someone brings treats into work I tend to avoid them and stick to what I pack for my lunch only - so as long as I control the amount I eat and cut out the weeknight beers I think I should be able to shed a few pounds.
Good luck Quix!

16 hours fasting, 8 hours for food. I do 2pm to 10pm.
Cardio can help you lose weight if you do it a certain way, there's a science behind it that was explained to me.
Good luck to you to Q.

Good luck Quix! Why does it take soooo long to lose weight but no time at all to put it all back on!!! It’s all very mysterious….
