Thjere are times when I'm prepared to argue that Victoria Wood was the best British writer - in any format - in the 20th century (present company excepted of course )

I find VW's writing a bit overcooked sometimes, the humour a bit too clever with all the super-specific references shoved together. But that last example is uproarious. I've watched it several times now and nearly ruptured myself laughing. For sure, at her best, Victoria Wood was an incredible writer - but nobody could deliver her material better than Patricia Routledge.
