So Prigozhin is going to get asylum in Belarus, The Wagner Group can carry on as if nothing's happened and it all gets forgotten about. All very strange.

The fact that Putin won't punish the mutiny in any form says a huge amount. It is extremely difficult to see how they can continue to prosecute the war in the Ukraine any more.
Looks like Russia is going through what happened in 1917-21 again; I wouldn't be surprised if power groups migrate to a Warlord structure like it did a hundred years ago.
What a travesty for the everyday Russian.

Am currently reading 'the story of Russia' by Orlando Figes.
What's happening with the Prigozhin rebellion, is completely in line with Russia's history since the Mongolian occupation.
The Russian state has always been lost between the East and West and has found it difficult to settle in between.
Both the Poetin and Prigozhin characters are deeply rooted in the Russian mind set.

Yes, but what was it? What was he hoping to achieve? I think it could be anything. As far as I am concerned, I find it strange that Prigozhin received Asylum from Lukashenko who mostly adheres to what Putin decretes. It could be a distraction tactic, set up between Putin and Prigozhin. I wasn't very strong on Russian reliability and this has sofar not been denied by what I have read sofar

Has anyone here actually ever been to Russia ? I just have it in my head that it's still stuck in the 80's. Kinda grubby etc. Totally unfair of me, that's just the mental picture i have.

No, but my ex went to Moscow and loved it. I've been wanting to go for a long time, but doubt it'll ever happen now. It's a fascinating country and the fact that they've got a thug as leader shouldn't detract from that.

I have. 1989. It was still the USSR at the time. I did a tour of Leningrad (as it was then), Bukhara, Tashkent, Samarkand, Dushanbe, Alma Ata (as it was then), Moscow and back to Leningrad. It was very tidy and clean if a little dated. As a tourist you don't get a proper picture on the official tours but you could go out by yourself. We did the Metro tour by ourselves in Moscow and went to Red Square before our official tour. Tourists stood out a mile then. Simply by looking at our clothes and the quality of them. Guy started talking to me on the Metro, decided I was his best mate and he was coming back to our hotel for a drink. He barely got his foot in the door before he got huckled out by the security, no locals allowed. I would love to go back but with everything that's going on that's not happening.

It's that Amish guy I always get stuck behind in traffic when he's driving his horse drawn cart.

Do you not steer a horse drawn cart instead of drive it?
