In the last year I've had a nasty case of jock itch, recurring problems with hemorrhoids and now I've got Plantar fasciitis in my right foot. The other day after walking up a munro it was so sore I couldn't even place my toes on the floor.
You?

My right leg is fucked. I'm quite worried about it. It got really bad in summer - it was seriously painful, especially around the knee, and I had real difficulty walking. It's a bit better now, but there's obviously something wrong.
It's nothing to do with any injury, anything external. It might be related to my heart, I've done some research. Some arterial thing, can't remember the name. It was bad about three years ago too and I managed to talk to a doctor (it's close to impossible to get an appointment here 'cos everybody's old and ill) and he just told me it was wear and tear. Which is useless.

You are talking about peripheral arterial disease or PAD as it is commonly known. I have it. It commonly starts as a pain in the calf, which eases when you stop walking. I had some trouble with my knee, due to compensating for easing the calf pain. I take clopidogrol to control it. Although ,in my case it appears to be flaring up again.
I had to wait for my doctor to finish his consultation, he came to the same conclusion as yours. I mentioned my symptoms appeared to be classic pad symptoms.
He swivelled in his chair, muttered something under his breath and before I could say anymore he had me wearing a heart monitor, decided to check my cholesterol and two weeks later I had the drugs I needed.

Oh wow! That's actually really helpful, Jimmy - thanks. I'll try and talk to the doc.

I don't imagine you as either.Jock itch, recurring problems with hemorrhoids , perfectly understandable. It's walking and hiking. Over the last 6 months+ I've upped the walking to around 9-10000 steps per day and in the summer I started doing Munro's with a mate and in the space of a month and a half we did 10. That was the tipping point. At first I didn't twig what it is but it all seems to line up. It appears to initially be an inflammation that goes down but the wear and tear remains. Some say it just goes away in time if you take it easier but the general consensus appears to be you need to stretch and do exercises to get the blood flowing to give the tissue a chance to repair. It can take a long time though and people often have recurring problems, sometimes for years it seems. It's more common with hikers too.

My issue is that I don't get the time to exercise. My job is fairly active and most of the time I'm either walking or standing, which counts for something. I have tried to incorporate some of those things like planks, sitting next to the wall etc - whatever they're called.

I don't want to jinx anything, but I haven't had any sort of viral illness since a bout of norovirus a decade ago. I've developed Raynaud's, but that's an inconvenience rather than a worry. I've the beginnings of a cataract in my left (non-dominant) eye, I occasionally still have those anxiety attacks I've mentioned here before, and it takes me a while longer to recover from injuries or exertions (like the trip to France) than it used to, but basically now I'm in many ways fitter than I was in my 20s and 30s, when I was using tobacco, speed and alcohol.
I can't take any credit for it - I've always been interested in nutrition, never learned to drive, walked a fair bit, but that's about it - just been very lucky. I take statins, and my cholesterol levels are normal, blood pressure fine, and to quote my doctor the last time they were checked, I have the kidney and liver functions of someone in their 20s.
While I'm aware I could die any minute of something I'm not aware of, I tend to live my life as if I'm going to be 100: after all, if I do make it to that age in one undemented piece, it would have been a waste to have spent those 25 years fretting about decline and death.

Aside from chronic back pain which comes and goes (but is always lurking in the background, as it were), and perhaps the consumption of too much alcohol on weekends, I feel as though I'm in fairly good health. I cycle or walk the 4km each way to and from work every day, and my job mainly keeps me moving around, so I'm not lacking for exercise. We eat fairly well - hardly any heavily processed foods - and are both fairly mentally active, but I haven't been to a doctor in several years, even though I have a GP, and should probably go get the once-over sooner rather than later.

Can't complain. A bit of pain in the knee when going up the stairs, but bearable, and gets better if I do some exercise to strengthen it (which I do a bit less than I should)
Other than that, small prostate problems ('compatible with age' said the doctor) for which I take a pill the that also helps with blood pressure.
I exercise a bit since I retired, 5 km walks 3-4 times per week, and some gym or yoga classes at the local sport facilities 3 times per week. This is definitely more than I have EVER done.
I lost 12 kilos from what I was two years ago, now I am 72 kilos and 1,72 m high (5ft8) had not been so slim since about 20 years ago. Very little alcohol, couple of beers a week, maybe some wine if we go out, very seldom a glass of scotch. I don't miss it at all.

I was walking around seven miles a day, 2 1/2 in the morning, 2 at lunch and 2 1/2 after work. I have really flat feet that cause bunions (it happens because of the way your foot absorbs shock when it lands). I got some arch supports and it fucked up my Achilles. After two or three days with the supports, it messed me up so bad I could barely walk to the mailbox. I'm finally getting to where I can walk a couple miles and it's still painful. I rode bike and I have a rowing machine, but those get boring to me.
For the last 6-8 months, I've been drinking and smoking cigarettes pretty good on the weekends. In Oregon, they take your blood pressure when you go to the dentist. I was having an oral surgeon check me out for a procedure and my BP was around 190 - with blood pressure medicine. I stopped drinking and smoking immediately after that and haven't had anything to drink or smoke in three weeks.
About five years ago, I suddenly got gout for the first time and had a bout this week. It's excruciating, but luckily I had some anti-inflammatories and bananas and cherries, which help mitigate the uric acid build up that cause gout. It's a form of arthritis where crystals form in your joints - that's what causes the pain. It's slowly going away, felt good yesterday, a little better today.

Up until last week, I was Tip Top... Hope you're ok Dayo I'be been running a lot more in the past few months and playing football as well, so of course i have some problems connected to that stuff. Rashes on the inner thighs, piles, toe nail issues, and most seriously a degenerative problem in my right big toe where the cartilage is wearing away and is starting to affect my walking, not only kicking. What a drag it is getting old.
