Should be a 99/100. It may be the greatest collection of recorded sound in history, but when she tops it with her next album, how could it be 100?

I can't even say I've heard much by her. But I find myself kind of instinctively thinking she's great. It's a bit odd.

I tried with two of her albums. It is just full of empty pointless nonsense. She is pops Grateful Dead. Instantly forgettable.

I can't comment. wouldn't have a clue, beyond 'Shake it Off', which was a nice pop song.

The media jizzing isn't universal (looks like Pitchfork only gave it 7.7, for example) but the widespread fawning is very understandable even if we don't agree with it. In 2023 Tay Tay is pretty much your gold-standard pop star: she still sells millions of units, is a huge touring artist, gets on the news and print covers for her musical releases as well as her personal life, and she has shown a longevity to her career that the modern industry is deperately crying out for.
Add to all that now her monetary/artistic fight for the rights to her work, which is the catalyst behind these rereleased "Taylor versions" of her albums, and you have a figure who people feel GOOD about getting behind and supporting. They want to love these releases because they are representing so much more than just music.

You must be joking Fange. That could be anybody from the mid eighties to the present day. It's just bland f.m drivetime Muzak. It's the essence of the kind of shit warehouse workers have to listen too, while on shift. What is the appeal ? I don't get it.

I can't tell you that Jimmy! A song/artist/style either clicks with you or it doesn't! That one and 'Shake It Off' are the best songs off 1989 for me, fine pop songs.

Strange, if you put her up against Abba, say. It's a no contest. There are plenty of instances of groups/singers suddenly ruling the world, often despite their poor output, Garth Brooks or Cassidy back in the day.
Yet, here she is, plain looking girl with plain sounding songs.

I think that’s it- they’re plain - nothing special or spectacular about them. Her voice doesn’t have a lot of character, and you forget them when they’re over. My daughter has a couple of her songs on her Spotify playlist and I didn’t know who was the singer until she told me. Because of the hype, I thought there would be more to them. I Thank Ford she isn’t a Swifty. I don’t hate her music, it’s just there. Better it than AI Beatles or geriatric Stones, but I don’t hear the supposed excellence everyone is ejaculating over. The absolutely staggering hype, however is starting to annoy me. I wouldn’t lose any sleep if there was a backlash. I’m 60 years old and I’ve never seen anything like it. I really hate our media.

They reference so many obvious things it's almost a pisstake. Dreadful.
