50 seems like a fine number for the 70s..Now, if it were the 80s, 90s or 00s, it would be a different story, as witnessed by my voluminous contender threads. 20 per year and that was major trimming..

I'd enjoy the challenge of keeping it to 50 and representing all the great music of the time - I mean, even if you left out all the WBWGs (and who'd want to?) it'd be a pretty rich well to draw from.
Very in.

Nice, looks like we are a go!
So start making this lists, peeps. I'll give you a few weeks, and when you are ready PM them to me. As mentioned, don't worry about ranking them in order or anything like that; just a list of up to 50 of your fave 70s tunes.

Started yesterday evening and top of my head with just some checking about dates, I'm currently at 60+, no idea where I will be when I start browsing records and books. Just considering a few of my fave artists, it's going to be painful - how could I possibly not include at least 10 songs from Bowie or Neil Young?
It's my fave decade, surely influenced by being my teenage years. Most likely I will follow a more personal and less canonical approach.

What do u think, should we extend the song choices to 70? Seems appropriate somehow.

I'm fine with whatever you decide, fange, narrowing to any number is going to bring pain, but I guess that's part of the beauty of this.
My only worry is that the choice is so broad that we may end up with very few repeated tracks.

Yeah, this is true. Extending the number of choices to 70 might allow for more chances of songs being chosen by several people, but even if it's just a small final list of songs chosen by more than one person i am fascinated to see which ones get the nod. And if i'm honest, the gold for me will be seeing people's extended lists and finding songs i may have forgotten or not even heard. So i am very keen to see where our tastes overlap and where they don't.
So, let's make our lists up to 70 song choices.

I'm going to personally try to set a limit/quota of 7 songs per year, in order to get full representation across the decade, if I can. I'm sure it won't be that difficult.

I’m in but I’m not going to kill myself over it , I’ll write down the first 100 I can think of without duplicates and cross off 30. I doubt there will be a lot of overlap with other lists.

I've started making notes, don't think I can make it 70 songs and one per artist, but it shouldn't be too repetitive. The struggle is remembering all the obscure folk and kraut I don't own official copies of.

Can I just take “Reminiscing” by Little River Band 70 times?

I'll have one, mine so far is mostly soul with some reggae and jazz.
