I like, rather than love, Sabbath. Same with Ozzy, solo. You can’t deny their influence, but I prefer the stuff they influenced, in general (Metal!!!). I went with SBS and SA

I am happy to see 'Spiral Architect' getting a fair bit of love, i think it's a tremendous song.

They are like deep purple or AC/DC , you can slap them on and get some enjoyment, even some truly great moments. I ain't going to start wearing a denim waistcoat and start sewing band patches on it.
They are like the stones, don't feel the need to play them much, at the same time ,you are glad they are still alive and that they did their thing. I might play the debut later.

Ahem, I saw you out in this, yesterday: No patches, admittedly.

Something I forgot to mention yesterday: the album was written in a castle. It sounds like it was recorded in one. Peter Frampton's Frampton was actually recorded in a castle (the same castle, in fact - just looked it up), but to no real avail. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath sounds like what you would want an album recorded in a castle to sound like.
Also, I love that Ozzy wrote (most of?) the music for "Who Are You".

What did you think when you first heard it or heard about it, and how about now?
I remember getting all the Ozzy era Sabbath albums (No interest in the Dio era) in pretty quick succession from flea markets etc.. in the early 90's, when as a result of grunge, stoner rock etc. they were in vogue again.
I think my favourite is Vol. 4. That one and 'Paranoid' are the most consistent, I think. Even now, there are album tracks which I know the title of, but couldn't bring the melodies to mind. This one is no exception. Not heard it for ages and can't for the life of me remember how 'Spiral Architect' goes, for instance.
Where does it stand for you in terms of the Sabs' and Ozzy's catalogue, and in the wider rock genre?
As I said above, 'Vol. 4' and 'Paranoid' are the ones that I find more consistent. After that, there are a handful of great tracks on subsequent albums.
What are your fave songs? Pick the ones you like in the poll and tell us why (if you feel like it).
I voted for the title track, 'Killing Yourself To Live' and 'Sabbra Cadabra', the title of which still makes me smile and it has a killer riff.
What do you think of the cover art?
Cool.

What did you think when you first heard it or heard about it, and how about now? I used to think it was maybe their high point, but it's moved down a bit.
Where does it stand for you in terms of the Sabs' and Ozzy's catalogue, and in the wider rock genre? There's the first four, which all sound pretty alike, then the next two which opened things up a little with keyboards and such. After that you're on your own. As one of those two, it's wonderful!
What are your fave songs? Pick the ones you like in the poll and tell us why (if you feel like it). Title track, "Spiral Architect", "Who Are You". It's all good.
What do you think of the cover art? Perfect. Classic Drew Struzan art that truly elevates the music in the best way. I have an official Pacific Eye & Ear print of the back cover framed here at the house!

I don't know if I'm up or down, whether black is white or blue is brown. The colours in my life are all different somehow, Little boy blue's a big girl now.
