It's probably only me (OK maybe DF) who is more familiar with the Ochs track than that of his Bobness, although both have been part of my life for half a century or more a There's some great guitar in this - in fact it's the star of the show – but out of the context of the album I don't think this track stands as tall as it might do. It's not very good songwriting basically, one of his rhyme-led free association things, all great phrases and no great coherence (not that that is necessarily a bad thing) 6.5 / 10 b I thought Rehearsals for Retirement was a bit of a disappointment after Pleasures of the Harbour, mainly because it didn't have the wide-screen soundscaping and variety of what is one of half a dozen or so albums that I ever thought were truly great. And I hate to peddle a cliche, but this isn't the track I would have chosen from this album. I think that is Lincoln Mayorga on the piano, he who was a founder member of the Piltdown Men. It's 6 / 10, but again, I'm voting for the slightly lesser track just because it's getting a fearful kicking, and the difference between them is basically the guitar - Phil wrote better songs and gave as good, often better (although not here), vocals than his Bobness.

Guilty as charged, though I've always been very open with some of my canon-loving tendencies, skopey. I've always liked mix of both the well-known and the obscurer stuff in my lists.
