It really was just a celebration, everything great about the man played out for an awestruck audience. The basic idea was genius, and CA played along beautifully.

I didn't find the early Pete and Dud stuff funny growing up. It all seemed very old (ditto Hancock) but it makes me laugh now. I can see what the fuss is about with Cook, he had an outrageous comedic brain but it wasn't always channelled in the most satisfying way perhaps.
I imagine he could be the funniest man in the world in private company.
