the duffy track sounds incredibly dated. a mediocre slice of britpop.
the box tops sounds remarkably similar to another song which is on the the tip of my tongue. can't say i'm that fond of it, but i'd rather this than second-rate britpop.

I suspect at the time A was intended as some arch commentary on Britpop by a bloke who'd been around the block a few times ( a bit like Bowie commenting on the New Romantics in 'Fashion'), but listening to it now it seems a pretty brazen attempt to board the Britpop bandwagon. That said, I liked the contrast between the sharp, skewering guitar lines and the foppish vocal. However the chorus wasn't nearly so strong as it thought it was and it wore out its welcome.
I generally really like The Box Tops and I love this kind of produced mid sixties US sound...and yet B did very little for me. The song just never took off. Even Chilton sounds a bit disinterested.
Tough...I'll go for Duffy, as The Box Tops have more cred and he'll need the votes.

A is one of the better songs I've heard from an era I have little to no interest in. I appreciate that it's light on coked-out bluster, but it doesn't replace it with anything terribly exciting. "Inoffensive" is the highest compliment I can give it.
B is an oddity even by Chilton's wacky standards - seems like an affectionate parody of bubblegum, almost. I don't think anybody else ever sounded as jaded and self-aware as early, or as young.

Both artist/bands I really love. I'm going to go against the consensus on this one.

I think the only other Stephen "TinTin" Duffy song I've ever heard is that "Kiss Me" one. This one's pretty good, in a "let's rip off Robyn Hitchcock" kind of way.
I've got the 45 of 'Sweet Cream Ladies' and there's a reason I don't reach for it very often - I just find it dull.
I'll give it to

Bloody hell, I wish all youtube videos had the same volume, it just nearly knocked my eardrums across the street. This is Paul Weller trying to sound like Blur. It's a really shocking Chinn and Chapman barrel-scraper, with a hint of Beatles revivalism. Perhaps it's all a clever parody, with something insightful to say in its structure and lyrics. Unfortunately, I can't vote for it on that basis, because I've no idea what he normally does. Hoping this isn't what he normally does.
Can't say as I'm familiar with The Box Tops either. It's another late sixties safeground selection, I guess the brass is playful enough, even if the song is kinda cloying and annoying. Doesn't really go anywhere. Gets lucky being up against such a terrible track.

A is a ripoff of Morrissey's 'Glamorous Glue' - give it a listen if you don't believe me. It's not at all bad but it's rubbish. Does that make sense? It does to me!
B is a genuine oddity - hops into view and then smartly off again, leaving you smiling. Nice.

Chilton looks uncomfortable. Maybe he's embarrassed that a song about prostitution would be used in a Cover Girl cosmetics ad. I like A, but have to vote for

Both sound enjoyable in their own way, but I've never been totally sold on either. A is energetic and sounds fun, but seems to be channeling some kind of tongue in cheek humour I can't connect to. B is like a strange cross between a late-'60s Kinks cut and a TV jingle about biscuits, but it has an earworm quality that's hard to ignore.

I found the Box Tops track rather poor, and A has some interesting sections.

Things like A are pretty far removed from what is usually my thing (even if I enjoy the odd Britpop act or tune here and there), but even by these terms this is pretty rubbish. B's pleasant enough, and it also has a naturalness or lightness of touch A and a lot of things like A could be better served with.

A does seem to be jumping someone else's train...(It does ape "Glamorous Glue" a bit)....The Boxtops are pleasant enough, I guess, even though there's nothing really exciting about it...Vote B
