I never heard the first one. I like it. I try to be a fair guy but it never had a chance against even a fair Howlin' Wolf tune and "spoonful" is far beyond fair. B.

B is great of course. But A gets my vote as I like how it shimmers and sparkles.

A - Nice guitar, dull (and completely undecipherable – the only word I picked out was 'birds', and I still don't know whether he was singing about Audubon or Ronnie Wood) vocal. Sure it does not go anywhere, but I have no problem with that, providing that while it sticks around, it does nothing to frighten the horses. The guitar is pretty though, and the dreaming outro with the string synths soothing off into the sunset, or flying south for the winter, is OK by me 5 / 10 b - In 1963 or 1964 I bought the Pye International EP which featured Smokestack Lightning, Going Down Slow and a couple of other fine tracks, but not this one, and since I never bought another record by him (left that to my mate Keith, who loved American blues, so this sounds actually more of less fresh to me. Like any rational human being, I love the sounds Herbert Sumlin wrings out of his guitar, and I find the odd tinkly fills by the strillers omie vaguely thrilling, while of course old Chester's Beefheart imitation is second to none, but this song is more than somewhat tainted by the wretched white-boy Brit blooz Cream versions featuring Clappedout and Thumper the Junkie that oozed out in the late 1960s, to the extent that they rather ruined it for me. I recognize and salute the class on view, here, but 5 / 10

A started a bit like Felt then went a bit solo Liam Gallagher. I rather liked it. B is the kind of pick that plays well to the Preludin sophisticates. I get tired of this stuff quickly but in the right doses, its pretty elemental. Um

I agree with those guys: A is really nice for a minute or so, then you realise the guy's just had one idea and put it on a loop.
But then B is the same, really. He establishes what he's going to do in the first ten seconds then it's just three more minutes going through the Big Book of Blues Clichés.
B has better singing but A has better guitar sounds.
