Even the coin I just tossed landed in a pile of vomit.

Just me that likes both, then?
A is a bold pick - Piazzola being an artist that is equal parts wonderful and completely outside the Preludin canon. Not my favorite track I've ever heard by him - and WTF is going on in the intro, and who decided it should be included in the final recording? - but it's the kind of thing we need more of.
B is lightweight, goofy pop. But it's not like that's a terrible thing in its place. And as modern(ish) bands go, they usually give me a decent amount of pleasure, but inevitably it loses out to the bolder choice.

Anything with an accordion on the cover is automatically a brave choice. What's going on here with that opening? I was wondering if it was going to be some weird musique concrete tapeloop thing that driftin would've picked to annoy everyone. Not sure what the track's doing, seems to be going for some bold noir thing. I'm glad some people are showing signs of leaving comfort zones behind in this round, how nice a little variety can be now and again. Dramatic, innit?
Oh, its modern, so fair play to the picker for that. That intro vocal is really annoying though, kinda wet, like it should be on the Juno soundtrack. The funk of it all is a bit Jamiroquai. Just far from my kind of thing, though I don't think it deserves the kicking it's had so far. It's competent and sunny, just a bit backward looking, and not looking in a direction I like.

Oh, for crying out loud....
A sounds like a straightened-out Tom Waits and is of no interest at all.
B is emphatically bad.

I like some later Phoenix but not really the debut. A is fun and slightly unhinged in a good way.

A seemed like it would be useful as an accompaniment to something else, like a circus act ( it makes me think of a clown on a unicycle for some reason). As something to listen to in isolation, no - it's too jarring. I agree with Fange about Phoenix. I quite like the sound, but the song is very forgettable. Whoever picked this would have been better off going for a more obvious choice from them. If you're going to go pop, go pop all the way and pick a hit!

About a week or so after the 80s cup wrapped up I was slapping my forehead because I didn't think at the time of including something off of Zero Hour in my list. It's an absolutely masterful record, and nice to see it get some attention around these parts. Piazzolla is a god.

... Zero Hour ... It's an absolutely masterful record ... Piazzolla is a god. This. Though some comments make me think this is not the most appropriate context to get it. A strong recommendation to step into his music for those who haven't done yet. Nothing terribly wrong about B, but it has to be A

I lkes me a bit of Astor. Al Di Meola is a big champion of his, and it’s nice to hear it here.
