What are people hearing in A? Honestly. On the other had I'm very curious about what you're hearing in it that is circus-like whatsoever. As for me, I think that like much of Piazzolla's work it is a superb expansion of tango by means of fusing it with a Bartok-esque drive and angularity, it makes for a very sonically and rhythmically intricate piece that's intense and abrasive without ever giving in to dissonance. All this aided by how utterly expressive the playing is, from the slapping of the instruments to the stabbing quality to the keys and bandoneon. As Fish says, there's a noirish quality to it - more so, a noir quality as tinged by a porteño lens. This wouldn't be out of place in a Borges/Casares story or an Hugo Santiago film, or better to the point, it remits to a similar effect whilst having the body to not just be a "soundtrack" or "tonal piece". Can only speak about my experience of course, others might hear different things in it.

I think I would listen again to A rather than B. So,
A

a - never heard of this guy, but I have been known to champion squeezeboxers of one sort or another, and after the somewhat off-putting vocal noises at the beginning (and the title – generally find the word tango off-putting), I found this diverting, at least, with an appealing edge and urgency to the playing and some fine piano that verged on Cecil Taylor at times. If I were still of an age to find seeking out new music appealing, I might be inclined to investigate further, but this is sufficient unto itself 5.5 / 10 b - never heard of this lot either. For some reason, I was expecting rock, not this pleasantly bumbly and sparkly pop R&B with a light tenor lead. I don't mind that it's about as substantial as the froth on a pint of lemonade. Surely that's the point 5.5 /10
B for the usual reasons

Just me that likes both, then? A is a bold pick - Piazzola being an artist that is equal parts wonderful and completely outside the Preludin canon. Not my favorite track I've ever heard by him - and WTF is going on in the intro, and who decided it should be included in the final recording? - but it's the kind of thing we need more of. B is lightweight, goofy pop. But it's not like that's a terrible thing in its place. And as modern(ish) bands go, they usually give me a decent amount of pleasure, but inevitably it loses out to the bolder choice. Apparently not. snee likes your post, and I have to say that I like both tracks, too, even though both are completely unfamiliar and outside my usual comfort zones (for want of a better cliche), and the fact that in terms of mood and purpose, they are pretty much polar opposites.

A is like the incidental music from a Jeunet & Caro movie. I'm not sure why you'd want to listen to that outside that context. B is a slightly idiosyncratic pick from one of the best modern bands - they got better but it still walking this tie.

If you're going to go pop, go pop all the way and pick a hit! It's had over 100 million plays on Spotify and 13 million on Youtube, what more does it need to do to be a hit? I think it's great, a twisty vocal lines with a lilting balearic indie beat, and those ringing guitars in the chorus are the cherry on top. A sounds like something that would work as a film soundtrack but not for home listening, no thanks. B

Well I was in France when we were supposed to send lists in and they've blocked everything on Youtube there except Phoenix and David Guetta, so thank your lucky stars I didn't send him in!
