I understand, and indeed heartily endorse, the idea that voting in the cups is about stylish vituperation and kvetching as it is being positive about the picks, but I would rather we kept the slagging to the tracks chosen, rather than referring to the pickers as 'cunts', a 'disgrace', and so on. Not a stricture, just a wish.
And actually the same could be said about threads in other places, except of course where there is a mutually agreed level of acceptable ad hominen stuff among 'friends'.

We don't know who the 'man' is! Outside of the Cup, yeah, directed abuse is a bit much sometimes. But general expressions of frustration/disappointment/annoyance here, however harsh, shouldn't really land too hard. Just my opinion.

It isn't only you skope, not by a long chalk, and my point is that, when you don't actually know who you are talking to/about, it can come across as a personal insult whether you seriously meant it or not. We're not all pachyderms, tha' knows

I've not noticed all that much abuse, although the horrendous reception my picks are continuing to get is of course a Preludin scandal. Personally I would rather read and indeed receive a harsh comment than read simply 'A' or 'B'. Being purposefully boring or bland on a message forum is the worst crime of all.

That, and the lack of twisted, rude, paranoid and most of all DEADLY DULL fuckpigs.

And I manage to be neither bland nor boring, in fact being quite spectacularly dismissive and rude, without suggesting the picker needs new ears

Personal abuse achieves nothing other than potentially upsetting someone. It's not needed.

It's not needed. *cough* when it's between people who know each other can take it, it's one thing. When it's clearly out of order (not talking about anyone here) or it's to new people or people who don't post very much, it may possibly be taken as aggression to that individual and be a deterrent - particularly if we want more posters an that. *cough, moving on*

All this on a day where left and right came together to talk about philosophy, too!
We're all in harmony here. Long live PRELUDIN

Hate the game, not the player, in other words. We prefer to use football metaphors here. You must try and fit in.
