It's common to hear Tarantino is self indulgent, which is true, but it's even truer to say he's indulged and that's where the problem really lies. You don't get the impression his shooting script has gone through any of the normal editing, revisions or work these things usually get. Five minutes of Pitt fixing the aerial on the roof or feeding his dog, sure you can keep it in! It makes watching a Tarantino film an odd experience, you watch glazed through scenes that are boring or pointless, and then wake yourself up for the scenes that do work.

The one that got me was when Pitt punched the guy at the hippy place. Somebody gets on a horse to go tell the guy on the trail what has happened. Shots of horse and rider running up the trail, tells whats happened. Shots of guy on the trail riding at full speed to get back to the hippy place to confront Pitt...........gets back and Pitt has already left. Fade to black.....

don't get me started on Quentin Tarantino. I have as much good to say as bad. I doubt you've got that much time on your hands. I think he's very talented but I also think he's the single most overrated film maker of my movie-watching lifetime.
stale mate.

IMO yeah. all three. I'm hit & miss on PTA but I think he's got something to say. not that this is necessary but I don't think they have anywhere near the critical honey trap that QT enjoys.

Who's better? The Coens? Wes Anderson? PTA? The coens and PTA. Anderson suffers from some of the same problems as Tarantino.

A lack of meaning. A lack of maturity. Something like No Country... or Phantom Thread is beyond the pair of them but they won't even attempt it. The great directors tackle big themes, big ideas. They don't retreat/hide in their callow youthful obsessions.
