Freekeh soup (in vegetable stock) is a winner. Protein and fibre rich.

I'm trying to eat more veg. I made my own sag paneer last night and I'm gonna focus on some vegetarian Indian recipes over the next few months.
It's cheaper and healthier.
I just hope the lass can tolerate my farts.

the health benefits have been unexpected and an absolute boon! i was bordering on being overweight and went from a 34 waist to a 30 and down to 68 kilos. I joke about corn dogs and reuben sandwiches, but eat a pretty meat free diet. Except for the recent holidays. I ate meat and drank more than I should and gained 10 lbs. Last week, I went almost entirely vegetarian, quit drinking, and felt like I lost 5 of the lbs and felt a ton better. I went back to some old ways this weekend and feel like crap again. My 16 year-old started eschewing meat for about 3-4 months, and since we live together, it's pretty easy to avoid meat in the house. I put milk in my coffee, but he drinks soy milk. We both don't enjoy eggs, although we both do enjoy some cheese.

You're still a boring old melt who delights in insulting people in that teenage manner of yours.
Look, we all know you love being a vegan. I wondered how long it would take before you proselytized about how wonderful it is being a vegan, with all the attendant health benefits that it brings. Good for you. It is the same as being a tedious lefty, a puritanical shrillness in the knowledge of your moral certainty, your absolute position of being RIGHT.
You even said that you don't care about what people eat, but it is clear that you take every opportunity to berate those who have different attitudes to you.
Changing ways of life isn't easy. Knowledge of food isn't always passed down through generations and lots of people don't have the same time as others to shift their diet accordingly. There are livelihoods..
Oh scrap this, you have a track record of not actually discussing things maturely so why bother.

what is the fucking point of posting on a vegan thread about humanely killing animals, other than to get a rise out of me?
i clearly stated that i don't believe in the slaughter or exploitation of animals. i'm not looking to debate the subject.

That's just shutting down the discussion though.
Fair enough, you don't believe in the slaughtering of animals. It's like people who don't believe in God - there are plenty of people who do, so the discussion has merit.
What we are dealing with is to arrive at a situation where the industrial slaughter of animals is reduced. Telling people what to do, doesn't in my experience, work very well. So other practices and approaches are needed. I think that an awareness of the industrial scale of animal slaughter is required, but that usually comes through understanding how food is produced.
Millions of people around the world are dependent on animal livestock. How do you propose to change their careers and livelihoods? Starting to sow and grow crops instead of pasture doesn't happen overnight.

There's nothing at all ethical about taking coke, yet you blithely admit to it. Reel your neck in a bit, there's no need to go off on a rant at Toby, he said nothing remotely unreasonable.

What I find kinda humorous is that a bunch of companies, some here in the Bay Area, are trying to come up with different kinds of meat alternatives when there seems to be a lot of protein options anyway. Do people really need the taste of meat that bad? I don't think there's any valid response to the way livestock is raised on factory farms. Not only is the way livestock raised bad, but the results of their being raised is severely taxing on the environment. So much so, that it ranks up there with carbon emissions as the reason for climate change. I think it might even have more effect.
