Not a big fan of this Love song. I bet Raphael Saadiq was listening to Little Milton when he wrote his song in this round.

Solid, if unspectacular blues number vs. solid Da Capo Love...Easy... Vote B

the little milton selection is a nice pick. hmmm his voice sounds like he's straining to lay an egg.
for shame, i will go for the obvious B

Great match, finally!
A is a wonderful steamy shouty soul thing, nothing sumptuous or laid-back or half-arsed about it, a joy to hear (for the first time). What a voice!
I have to give it to
B THO'
because it's solid gold, always thrills

Yeah, both great, but A is a touch closer to ordinary for its time and place. B may be a touch obvious (it's not exactly "7 and 7 is," though, is it?) but it sounds remarkably fresh for being half a century old no matter how many times I hear it.

A is slightly rote, the 'song' probably took less time to write than record. But the vigorous performance elevates it beyond its formula. In particular give the rhythm guitarist a gold medal!
B is one of the weaker Love songs ( they basically rehash the melody of "My Little Red Book") but Arthur's demented vocal and the carnivalesque, eccentric arrangement bring their own rewards.
Good tie and very close, but A wins as the fresher selection.

a - A nice piece of Fish-baiting vintage Chess R&B (NOT SOUL FFFS). A rather generic one, yes, albeit with a stabbing lead guitar, but a good sound to sweat along to in a smoky basement club, but unfortunately for me I'm in my living room eating a sandwich. 5 / 10 b – One of the lesser tracks on side A of Da Capo, but since that is one of the best album sides EVER, that's not so much a diss as a recommendation. As the first track, it announced the departures from the garagey sounds of the first album, with more complex arrangements thanks to the addition of Stuart and Cantrelli, delicate songs - no covers, and the baroque otherness that would finally blossom in Forever Changes. It's not as 'obvious' a pick as almost anything from that album, or indeed 7&7 Is, Orange Skies or She Comes in Colours from this one, and it's easily good enough here. 6 / 10 B

Good match! Two artists i love, with two deeper and more personal choices. Both feature really strong musical performanes, but i might just give it to A for the blasting horn sections and the biting little guitar bits.

Hmm, another soul number. Decent hoary-old throaty voice, nice stabs of brass, has an energy about it. Very much a standard kinda averageness, but it does its standard averageness with a degree of competence from the blues university of soul-shoutington.
Guitar sounds really nice on B, but the track itself is just a bit annoying, feels like someone at Blackpool's Empire Ballroom got their Pink Floyd records out. And picking Love seems to be very much a lazy thing to do given the constituency of the board. Still, I could more easily listen to this, just for that nice guitar.

Me too feeling this is a strong tie. Nothing to add except I found A a tad more exciting to hear, but B could have won many other ties.

I like Little Milton's uptown sound but it's outclassed, here. The barely-contained mania of 'Stephanie' wins the day.

I don't know what to think of A... On one hand I can see a hint of histrionics and bombast that is reminiscent to the likes of a Crazy World of Arthur Brown - but at the same time it's pretty undeniable that Brown took those same qualities to a whole other level of manic. On the other hand, as it is this ends up sounding like a little less passé "Sexbomb". As for B... It's Love. The better track for certain, but also the more obvious pick. Dunno. Abstain
