I liked B more than I thought, but this is a pretty great Aretha song.

B is a great pick and i appreciate it's originality. easily the best song of the round.
A is just shouty franklin without the soul.

I'm going for
B
because although I really like A (how could you not?), I expect Aretha will get lots of votes here, and B maybe not so many. But B is a hell of a selection, the thing is genuinely exciting to listen to. There are such cool sounds in there. It's an album I have to investigate - thanks for the tip, whoever you are

A is fine. However I much prefer sassy, urban Aretha to happy-clappy, churchy Aretha.
I've heard B somewhere before but I can't think where. Usually these kind of private press oddities are a disappointment. This is different though - the arrangement is very considered and sophisticated, the songwriting strong and purposeful. It's a bit eccentric but in a way that hangs together. I really liked this a lot..one of the best things I've heard in the competition in fact.

Not sure what everyone is hearing with B. It's cool, but also sounds like what it is - a charming but basic song helped out by musicians with good feel. I'm intrigued enough to want to check out more, but it doesn't come close to the gloriousness and energy of A.

a - well, I do like gospel, and I prefer hearing Aretha sing this than the up-tempo R&B that helped to establish her as a soul singer. That's some full-throated choir she's got with her there, too. 5.5 / 10 b - Calling your album 'The Truth' and posing as the Risen Christ on the cover isn't necessarily a turn-off, but Jesus can't sing, or at least has an unattractive singing voice, and even his fancy-arsed arrangement can't disguise that – oh ffs a fucking flute, that's lost the tie right there. The mix sounds wrong to me, too. The song sounds like it would like to be prog. I would like it to fuck off. 3 /10

I'm with hatzy on this one. B is interesting and appealing in some ways, but A is in a different class.

No contest here at all. And B could be worse.

Yeah, if I'm forced to endure more dusted off relics, I'd rather it was stuff like this. A sounds open, honest, warm and full of joy. Happy and clappy is fine by me.
B's not as bad as expected, either. Reminds me of Radiohead, with a cheesy lounge rock setting. Wouldn't want to hear it twice though.

B, actually
It's new to me and in my comfort zone, so that's worth a vote.

B sounds like something Spiritualized would've covered, and the guy has an awful voice. I'd probably prefer it if it was a Spiritualized song.
A isn't really my bag, and it goes on a bit too long, but it wins here.

I rather liked B, and it's new to me. I don't think A's one of Aretha's best, it's fine but that's about it.
