I seemed to spend a lot of time listening to stuff like A in the 80s, especially when I was smoking weed. This was our underground back then. I don't return to all that ON U Sound stuff often now though. I still quite like it, I'm a sucker for dubby, deep bass and the production (Mr Sherwood I presume) sounds suitably spacious. There's something a little insubstantial about it though, like an arty experiment. I preferred "Stranger Than Love" from the same time.
I swear to God I was playing B the other day thinking it would've been a great cup selection! It's very much a favourite in G towers - sinewy and tight with a wonderful moody vibe. Sad that he's known for "Rock Your Baby" when this is so much better.
Good tie...has to be B

whoever chose A wants bloody shooting, seriously.
the mcCrae track goes nowhere fast. i don't like it, but with two abstains already under my belt this round, i will reluctantly give this tie to B, who owes me a beer.

B was pretty good. A really was not.

B is a good example of the form, but A is just doing more interesting things, in it's dubby goodness...Vote A

I like some Stewart - the Pop Group, at least in small doses, does that jagged, trebly rock thing very well - but this just sounds like a stoned teenager in his mom's basement with a mixer.
B is a bit slight too - my kingdom for a bridge - but has a hell of a groove, which is more than enough here.

I really like the dubby sound of A, it's just a shame the tune itself feels so spliced-together and wispy thin. B isn't great as a "song" perhaps either; but it's so tight and groovy for 2 and a half mins. you don't really care, and just let the funky flow lift you up.

I never liked Adrian Sherwood's production style myself, it always seemed quite flat and deadening, like it mixed reggae with the worst aspects of post-punk. It's a bit of a novelty effort this, isn't it. I guess I quite like the way the choir is applied, it's better than Mark Stewart's own bits. What a shocker of a round this is.
B also seems flat here, mustn't have been able to afford Weetabix, this is a bit of an Aldi wheat bisks effort. Christ, it's a lumpen thing, it seems to think it's smooth and stylish, but it all feels pieced together very badly indeed, without anything in the way of a tune to linger in the memory.
Just so I don't do another abstain. A

In this Cup I've heard worse things than A, (not many, mind) and I'm running out of negative comments, so I'll skip that part.
Tempted to abstain because B is a tiny portion of nothing, But I'd feel bad not voting against the opponent.

Sorry A, but I just can't get into that kind of kitchen sink dub production. Not only does that insistent water-dropping-in-a-bucket snare sound drive me up the wall, the woozy intrusions of Salvation Army band and church choir do nothing for me as well.
I like B's slinky groove even if the tune doesn't really go anywhere.
