A's a classic for a reason. A record that's so self-assured and confident in what its doing that it just strolls, knowing the spacious production will allow the groove to flow. Love all the instrumentation on this from the perky flute to the glistening Rhodes to that scratchy, distorted guitar. What a trip.
I generally have a lot of time for Weatherall. What he was doing in the 90s was, in many ways, the answer to what On U and Sherwood were doing in the 80s ( as heard in match five). I always found his Sabres stuff hit and miss. This has a decent dubby rhythm track but not much else and it can be a thin line between minimalism and dull. This, unfortunately, steps across into the latter. Now if you'd have picked Wilmot...

B takes a while to get going but when it does it’s magnificent.
A is the kind of thing Fange and G spunk over so it’ll probably be a whitewash.

i'm huge fan of byrd but A's pick is probably one of the last of his i'd choose. B is out of my comfort zone.

A is great - for two or three minutes. Then it goes on. And on. And on. Great groove, but unless you're on the dance floor - which I may have mentioned a few times I rarely am - it's just dull and repetitive. Again - my kingdom for a bridge.
Fortunately for it, B seems to have no idea where to go after the setup. Which isn't all that much of anything anyway. Both seemed at least twice as long as they really were.

Again - my kingdom for a bridge. Isn't it "my kingdom for a horse" ?

The Mizell Bros.' work with Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey, et al. is not for everyone, but it's right in my wheelhouse. A probably could have chosen a stronger song, but the title track sets a strong funky mood and rides it all the way home. Great playing. B is ok and I do enjoy the dubby minimal groove but it's just a bit too long.

Can someone burn fange's wheelhouse down, it's clearly leaking loads of old hoary shit which is polluting the atmosphere. No way I'm listening to another 7 minutes of this.
Someone's decided that dicking about on the synth presets is futuristic again. But right now I'd sell my right kidney to have something that wasn't targeted at people in incontinence trousers, so it's going to win this round despite sounding like something Richard D James would've tossed out in half the time.

I found B extremely annoying, disgusting, irritating, bothersome, vexatious, disturbing , aggravating, exasperating, frustrating , irksome, pesky, pestiferous, plaguesome, tiresome , troublesome, trying , vexing, wearisome and a pain in the ass. Thanks WordReference.
