Three-parter starts Tuesday on ITV. The greatest televisual project yet devised. I am SO excited. looking forward to it. I've been in from the start, they're all seven years younger than me, just close enough. People behind the camera must be getting on a bit, if they're still involved. Cheers for the heads up. Weren't the earlier series on BBC?

Such a simple idea, and the results are absolutely fascinating.
Seven years between shows is enough time to forget the thing ever existed. And every time it rolls around again you're keen to see what happened to everyone. And inevitably you reflect on your own life.
There's been one significant change since the last programme, I just found out. I won't spoil it for you.

They all seem lovely. I wonder if the programme has been a positive influence on their lives, making them more considerate in the way they behave because they know they've got this scrutiny every seven years. I did get a bit bored with the lawyer guy, although he seemed a decent enough chap, but Sue, Tony the cabbie and Nick the science geek were great to see again.

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode especially because I think the 'lost soul' Scouser will be featured.

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode especially because I think the 'lost soul' Scouser will be featured. They're saving him for Thursday I think: there was a rundown of who they are featuring tomorrow at the end of the episode, and Neil didn't feature. It's just tremendous. Seven years is just long enough for you to forget, but close enough to be reminded. It's extraordinary TV, I actually feel privileged to have been part of it from the beginning. I liked the defiance in Tony and Susan, both.

I liked Susan particularly. She's really grown on me.

Susan is the one who's grown the most, I think (based on 56 Up). She's lost her cynicism, which is nice to see.
I will definitely see this when it comes to the theater here.
The other remarkable thing is ALL the original subjects were still alive as of the last one.
I know one of them is gone now (of the original 14), but that's still pretty impressive.

Wonderful stuff but I wished they'd gone deeper. Enough time with some of them, but nowhere near enough with some others. I can't see how it could have been done differently, however.
The summary it all ended with brought a tear to the eye.
Life, eh?

Yeah it's very moving. I did wonder how Neil went from homeless and jobless to being a local politician. Someone must have pulled a few strings for him.

I think as soon as someone's on TV, they're in a better position. You know, you see some helpless soul on the news, crying because they've lost their home. But all it takes is one person watching to call in with an offer to help out.
