Left to right my mother's father's father, Isaac Edwards (19), and mother (already pregnant with my grandad) Elizabeth Endall (18) and her father Richard Endall on my great grandparents' wedding day, September 1875, in London's docklands. Both my great-grandparents died in their twenties: Richard Endall made it to 61 years old.

October 16 1953, my fifth birthday party, with cousins Tony Humbles, Richard, Frances and Christine Edwards, Brenda Mart and June Edwards in the front room of the house in Clyde Road, Tottenham where my parents lived with my mother's mother, Minnie Edwards. Picture taken by my father's father, Walter Granger.

Of course, Hearst had San Simeon, but he had a few places in the Bay Area too. Over the hill, as they say, from where I live.

I don't know when or where or what that picture is, but that really made me do a double-take. Absolute doppelganger of a teenage me slap bang in the middle, in the checked top. Eerily similar.

There's a great site for old photos. www.flashbak.comI particularly liked the features on 60s Manchester and 80s teenage bedrooms.
