any other track would have a bye against the sex gang children, but the plant selection defies all odds and doesn't do enough. just another 60s star fumbling in the 80s or whenever it was recorded.

Shocking that these two turds should be put forward as selections in something as prestigious as the first Preludin Cup.

It's funny. At one point, Plant could shit out good songs after his morning coffee and now he couldn't find one with a spotlight.
The Sex Gang Children are, well the Sex Gang Children. I'm not one of those pussies that abstains, so I'll choose

just another 60s star fumbling in the 80s or whenever it was recorded. 2017, actually. And it's not a bad record at all. It has some good moments. Someone's just managed to pick a dull track from it. God knows why. But I tend to like the "mature" Plant pretty well. Might as well throw A a vote, though it's a curious pick. It helps that B is truly awful.

A is some dreadful hippy 80s soft rock new age shit. This person should not be allowed to vote again.
B has a terrible name and I could do without the vocals and the Exorcist sample sounds naff but...it's not A.

Terrible tie.
The sad thing is Plant has made some interesting music over the last decade or so, exploring various ethnic and folk music in quite an atmospheric way. God knows what he was thinking of with this though. It sounds like a rejected Budweiser advert..or something to pad out a Bryan Adams album. Believe it or not, The SGC had some quite sparky singles which had some drive to them (Sebastian or Mora..something Meyer), this though is bottom of the barrel Goth. It gets a protest vote though because A is one of the worst picks yet.

Fucking hellfire
I couldn't make it through either of these. Zilch redeeming features in either. I never liked Plant's voice, and this doesn't sound like Plant. It sopunds worse! SGC...12inchs of it. My constitution can't deal with that. I'm assuming they are both joke selections from an alias, or something.
I don't want to be an abstaining pussy, so can my vote be transformed into a negative vote, where both selections have points removed please. Rayge?

Wow, Robert Plant is getting some abuse even when pitched against Sex Gang Children? I don't find it that objectionable, it's a very kind of average late 80s pop rock track. I have no kind of preconceived ideas of what Plant should sound like. It doesn't strike me as being worse than The Waterboys or stuff like that.
It's odd that Deiche seems to be the track that represents SGC on compilations and things these days, as it sounds absolutely nothing like everything else they recorded. It was all spiky post-punk, with odd drum lines that sounded like someone falling downstairs at high speed, and multi-tracked shrieky vocals concerning 19th century Bavarian hotel proprietors ("Mauritia Mayer", G). The original Deiche was only a B-side to their debut single. I think this is the 1985 remix, which is not quite as good, but I still like it plenty.

I remember so looking forward to the Cups to be exposed to obscure or forgotten gems, but if this is what's left than I'm gonna give you all permission to go ahead and pick Dear Prudence or Gimme Shelter... please?

a The state of him on that cover. Looks like he squeezed that lemon one time too many. I've heard some of his recent material before - Her Thangness sometimes plays it – but it can't finesse my prejudices. I've heard that guitar tone before and quite liked it then, but this is so painfully not my thing... 3 / 10 b And I have no prejudice about this lot, although I never bought any of their records back in their day, so never heard them that I remember. It's not ripping up any wheelhouses, but someone shouting incoherently over plinkety plonking and thumping, with the odd metallic guitar for a plash of colour and a bit of swirling around the speakers for seven minutes is somewhat more alluring than someone almost as old as I am now warbling along about nothing much. 4.5 / 10
