I'm familiar with cover versions of both these tracks - can't remember who did the first, the Wedding Present did 'Getting Nowhere Fast'
anyway it's quite comfortably

Hmmmm, classic Philly soul against second-rate Brit punk/post-punk?

Love the ending of B, and it's a lot of fun. No match for the glorious A, though - pretty much a career peak for all involved. What an arrangement! (Though I probably prefer just the A-side - this is the full version, which was originally both sides of the single.)

B is alright and there is a decent bass line in there but it's out of its depth here.

A's undoubtedly a classy track, but it's a bit too middle of the road and safe as a pick for me to get too excited. The punky energy of GAOB was quite refreshing, but I don't think it's strong enough as a song or distinctive enough in its sound to compete fully here. If you'd have gone for 'Go for Gold' I would've been tempted to switch votes. Decent tie tho'.

A's a bit cheesy, isn't it. Disco soul. Like Barry White.
B is ok, but not classic.
Hmmmm.

Yeah, the wheelhouse you're looking for is over there. *points in fange's general direction*.
B's much more my kinda thing, I don't think it's doing anything special, but it's got a lot of charm, a nice hint of shambling amateurism, and a big bugger of a bassline. Lovely thing this, the best obscuro choice of the round so far.

Well, that cup rarity, two tracks I know and liked in their respective days. A nice Philly sound, but I feel that it's suffered in the last 50 years or so from being so regularly copied, and that basic thump beat underpinning it, and turning what is basically a mid-tempo vocal group performance into a dance track with crooning on top. Was never particularly impressed by teddy Pendergrass, either, but that's my problem. 5.5 / 10 B sure isn't obscuro in Granger Towers, where every utterance of the band is filed away with a small degree of reverence. I was quite a specialist in female-fronted punk and post-punk bands, and found GAOB utterly charming. this track, with it's tumbling bassline, was their first, truly indie, home-made single. Like A, it has lost a little of its appeal in the last four decades, but it started from a higher level. 6.5 / 10
My, that was reasonable of me, wasn't it?

I've never heard B before and I kinda like it. This is becoming more and more rare, so it wins.

Both very happily welcome in my house of wheel. Good propulsive Philly soul versus good propulsive punk rock. Close, but my gut says Gamble & Huff.

Not a huge fan of Philly soul my good old self, it evokes images of girls dancing in discos in a most un-sexy way. I have reconciled a bit with it since, but can't fully embrace it. And the new to me B was great great fun, short and nice and with a fantastic ending. Much closer to my wheelchair.
