B begins with some pretty piano notes, but the piano soon becomes fussy and florid..more Clayderman than Chopin. Ochs must be the most sincere, earnest bloke in the world if the selections in this year's cup are anything to go by. You can imagine even him ordering a pizza would be accompanied by furrowed brow paeans to the wonder of the pepperoni.
A rattles along agreeably enough. I wouldn't return to it, but it was fine for four minutes or so ( it didn't need to be over six). A

I feel like I lost some testosterone listening to B, which at my age is kinda dangerous.

Battle of the overly long (for what they are) songs...the formula of A gets tiresome and I dislike the female vocals and the Ochs track gets really tedious, especially half way through...Abstain for now (maybe I'll come back to this later)

While I prefer my Ochs choice to the somewhat stuffy B, A somehow managed to jangle and blather into eternity in less than 6 minutes. It seemed way, way longer.

B is utterly tedious. At the beginning the piano sounded nice but soon became an annoying distraction. Ochs can surely sing, but the repetition of that melody over and over killed any possible interest in the song.
A is very much alive and an easy winner here.

Hmm, not what I was expecting from Sub Pop, that country tinged intro followed by a cheap and cheerful transatlantic Levellers track. I guess it's competent and not ancient, so it's not offending me that much.
Well, I wouldn't have picked this particular track myself, but as a faithful Phil defender, I really don't think it's that bad at all. The problem with some of Pleasures of the Harbour is that it's a bit too ornate and over-arranged, but in this case a fairly simple song is helped by the throwing bucket loads of arrangement at it. Neither his sharpest, nor his most lyrical, but I think it's a fine enough track, albeit not 8 minutes worth.

Christ. I didn't like A much, but after listening to B it has to be the winner here. Ugh!

A is much less grungey than I thought it'd be. I can imagine my younger self being quite taken by it - its absolutely fine. I really don't like B at all. Scratch Phil Ochs from any long list I may have had.
