I put pandascream and C*** in this cup because it would give me a chance to talk about some of my favourite tracks, to enthuse and expatiate and be positive and hopefully turn one or two people on to things they may like that are outside the usual run of what goes on here and indeed on BCB. It hasn't really worked most of the time, notably with the Fugs, but this is simply the worst. I've Had Her is one of my favourite tracks from my favourite album, loved for the brilliance of the lyric, for its Romantic sensibility and ... of fuck, on and on for pages like I did with See My Baby Jive, but I'm actually physically sickened by the response it's got, and ashamed for thinking it would be any different from a bunch of arse-gibbons, so just fuck off, the lot of you.

It's not nice when a track you love gets destroyed Ray and especially if it's one that's particularly close to you. I felt a bit aggrieved at some of the comments 'London Boys' was getting in round two. At the same time it is just music, a piece of art that communicates powerfully to some, but will fall on its face with others. The process of why that happens is endlessly fascinating because it's so mysterious.

That’s the thing, everyone gets it - it’s fairly democratic and you’ll struggle to please everyone - even if you approach it that way, you’ll be deemed to be a craven vote harvester. I don’t really care too much and enjoy the dander that gets thrown at my picks almost as much as the praise from like minds.

Yeah that got slammed too. But what can you do? I mean you could just confine yourself to saying nothing or simply say "it's not my cup of tea". Sometimes I do keep my comments on things I dislike very short, there's no point writing paragraphs on why I might dislike a death metal track, it's simply not my genre and that's it. But other times I find it interesting to explore what I dislike about something. I try to make it insightful if I can (which doesn't meant to say I expect anyone else to agree), or failing that at least quite humorous and lively. For me the cups have become my preferred way of writing about music. I think that's true for some others too. So long as you play the ball not the man, then it's all fair game I think. All you can do is develop a thick skin on what you pick, but it's understandable to sometimes get annoyed at others not getting what you love.

I fully agree wih you G, I mean this comment above, not your taste in music. Reading again this thread, I don't find the comments especially harsh (I've got, and done, much worse), but as it's been said there are some picks that are personally close and this was the one for Ray. I hope it is a consolation for him that it's losing against a much better track.
