B is more fun, I guess...At least it was sampled in a song I like more by DJ Kool ("Let me clear my throat") Vote B

Much more like it. I really like A, one of their best but B just has a killer groove.
groove wins today. Sorry A

Strong tie to finish off things.
I like the Kool track, but there's also better funk out there. Nothing wrong with it, it's just a little generic and could hit harder. Still a good pick THO.
The Jeffs provide their second track of the competition. I think I'll give Pillow a play over the weekend as this reminds me how many strong tracks it has. The fragile tenderness of this track has always spoken to me. Lovely.

I like the guitar intro to A, but that woodwind is making me think of dodgy peruvian buskers. It has that self-consciously arty feel to it, there's more than a touch of turtle-neck jumper and goatee beard. Elegant enough, though the vocals and guitar seem to have no connection with each other, and that fucking woodwind thing is getting on my tits.
Another funk track that kicks off like a Royal Variety dance number, there's something about those big cheesy brass stabs that makes me think Bruce Forsyth is about to leap on and interrupt the set. The rest of the track is a bit tighter and understated, to be fair, though it's obviously not my bag, and that Hollywoooooooooood vocal is absolutely unforgivable.

Well, here's a favourite song from one of the great bands up against a bunch of funkwits. I wonder how this will pan out...
a Lovely piece of picking from Jorma to start, and Grace's recorder has a rather lovely, breathy round tone, but it doesn't really take off until Marty comes in around the one minute mark. There are times when I think there's no lovelier opening line than 'The summer had inhaled and held its breath too long', which, apart from being a perfect alexandrine, also evokes time and mood so precisely your right in the song from the start. It's a glorious lyric all round, a wonderful meditation on memory and yearning and suspension, and of course Marty sings the shit out of it. There are times when I think he is my favourite white vocalist. Fucking A++ 8.5 / 10
Tried to listen to this for the sake of form, from cheesy fanfare, through wah wah crap to hey hey shouts. Lasted 30 seconds. No mark

A is simply magnificient. B had some nice moments but I find what happens after 2:30 extremely annoying. For fucks sake shut the fuck up!!

Just realized I never voted on this one!
Love the horn charts and groove of B, and the self-referential bits are amusing. But it runs out of ideas and then keeps going. I could certainly dispense with at least the last minute, maybe more.
A, on the other hand, earns every second. I like what Rayge has to say about it, and appreciate that it's so subtle - something JA would lose the ability (or at least the desire) to be very soon.

Oh great match. Both favourites at chez fange, and so good to hear them here, though i wish i could vote for both. A is beautiful and B is invigorating; ust for the sheer delight of seeing K&tG in one of these comps. i'm going with B.

A has an unpleasant less-is-more earnestness about it. I like introspective and acoustic too but there are hundreds of such tracks better than this one. I don’t particularly care for B either. Still, it has a pulse at least. B This completes the voting from the Further Spanish Jury in the inaugural Preludin Pop Music Cup. Many thanks for organizing, Ray.
Edit: oh no it doesn't! I'll be here for the finals too.
