It's a bit troubling to see G question whether the board will survive and see Sloop think about jumping ship permanently, though... Very good chance this is my last day. Hence, my new avatar. Well I hope after your holiday and work trip you'll be back again. I have high hopes you will be. In the mean time have a good 'un.

I’ve found it a bit meh truthfully but then my enthusiasm for the cup has waned significantly over the years.
Considering the cup has been around for a long time it’s natural that we should have moved towards the obscure and personal but I feel there needs to be more of a crowd pleasing middle ground. And some of the voting has been absolutely fucked. I understand people sometimes prize “interesting” but c’mon to fuck. Sometimes it’s like being faced with a naked, wet Angelina Jolie and choosing Anne Widdecombe in a onesie.

www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.phpI'm with GB on that. I just don't like the style of posting there, it reminds me of below the line Guardian - lots of people who think they have some superior wit. It's a shame about the lack of participation here. Some people just haven't taken to it. I don't know what we do about it though, as JC says it is what it is. I do think we probably only need another half a dozen posting regularly for it to really liven up again. Message boards can function well on relatively low numbers if the quality of posting is good enough.
I think so. You don’t need huge numbers but a regular group of 20+ people can really spark. I am a bit disappointed more BCBers didn’t come over but there is loyalty there too which is understandable. And maybe some personal grievances too.
I can’t see me bothering with anywhere new though. If I think of the effort and time it took to get with BCB there is no way I could be arsed doing that these days.

To answer the original question, I think the cup has been a success. The song vs song format is definitely my favourite way of going about these things, and there were just the right number of competitors to keep it from being too overwhelming.
I didn't like a LOT of the music that was on offer, but I appreciated the attempt to really mix things up and not let us stay firmly on the well-trodden path of canon adjacency.
More of this sort of thing!

Ah, OK. Yeah, CaB is absolutely swarming with cunts. They'll roundly ignore you if you're not an old hand. And they all think they're funny as fuck. But still - there's so much traffic, so much knowledge there. Multi-page threads on the smallest, most specific things. You learn shitloads just by hanging around (culturally, I mean - you're right about the political stuff). It's kind of a model board, the sort of thing we (or BCB) should be aiming for in many ways. Yeah, I've been posting there a bit and it's simply because things happen there. There are some people who seem like idiots and some who I find amusing, and some who really know their stuff in the culture sections, and though there are a lot of stupid unfunny timewasting threads there they're filtered into a separate bit of the board, and there's also a lot that feels like BCB back in the good old days when the oddest or most random thread could suddenly become a fun five-page natter like being down the pub. That kind of thing scratches an itch for me as an expat, and there are unfortunately only about five people posting regularly here and BCB is completely gone now. The political threads there are a bit weird, yeah. There's basically a handful of Corbynistas, one guy called Paulie Walnuts who seems basically to be a far-right troll, and then one guy who voted for Farage and is rightly getting stick for it. But then on here there's basically a couple of Corbynistas then Dougie and Toby with their canes and monocles so it's about the same.

Can't you drag a few of the better ones here Ed? It makes me sad that people are giving up on here so quickly.

There's always something going on, always something to grab your interest.

There's so many posters that it feels as if everyone is posting to get attention. It would be tiring posting over there, trying to impress people as the 'newbie'.
