B suffers from the same malady as most UK alternative music from the 90s - sum of good influences adding up to...their taste being regurgitated and sold as rebellion. Better than Oasis, but not by much.
A might be a bit slight, but there's so much more sense of self, and her voice is full of character (apparently she was in Jefferson Airplane briefly between Signe and Grace). Has a bit of a "demo" feel (might well be, in fact), but her voice and guitar alone speak to me more than all the "right" vintage amps in the world. Not to mention she remembered to actually write a song.

There was a time where maybe A would've elicited some interest.
I liked B a lot.

Wow I loved A. Fragile and slightly fried, it had a spellbinding, woozy hypnotic quality. This is a proper discovery for me. B wasn't for me at all, I found it ugly and repetitious.

Clinic were absolutely committed to sonic recreations of the VU's stunning second album, and quite often they managed it. I can get with that kind of blatant plagiarism if the original is worth paying so much attention to.
Easily

Reminded me of the Elevators.

A can bore off. I've seen far too much of this folk crap this year.

After five seconds of B I knew it was going to get my vote. If you want to pick obscure tracks, better choose something with a minimum of excitement.

A is pretty but just doesn't really excite me enough. B has a driving energy that i like very much, and a mix of different influences that gel really well. The kind of thing we haven't heard enough of this Cup.

A was promising until the vocals kicked in which i found unpleasant.
B has spunk, but i'm not entirely convinced.

A is closer to my kind of thing than most of the cup selections so far. A bit of an austere Linda Perhacs, or a Jessica Pratt (not vocally, but musically). It's just a bit slight. Not pretty enough to be great, not trad enough to feel archaic and arcane. But not bad.
B doesn't remind me at all of VU, but it's also slightly better than I expected from a late 90s indie guitar band. Which might be the faintest of praise, but there's something here, possibly. There might even be a hint of post-punk around the repetitious nature of the playing, a hint of gloom around it, too.
Good tie this one, wandering away from comfort zones. Strangely, I'm going to go with the guitar band, rather than the folky lady.

A was a little too slight & folky for me whereas the droning motorik propulsion of B was quite exciting.
