I hope Andy Carroll does himself a favour and gets a bit of glory at Newcastle. It's a shame that injuries have curtailed what could have been a huge career - on his day he is the best header of the ball in the world.

A player out of time with limited abilities. I was stunned when Liverpool paid that for him.

i note that G is too busy licking DD's ball bag to comment upon arsenal's latest waste of money. Fantastic transfer window. Raul Sanllehi is the man. Top four for sure.

i reckon we're a good outside bet for a top 6 finish. The outside bet being about 100000-1 after today. At least you'll get good odds!

At least Chelsea were humbled by United, who in truth looked average at times, and yet won 4-0 because of very haphazard defending.
Arsenal won't go anywhere fast either.

Arsenal will probably go back into the top four. Yesterday's performance was missing over a half a dozen first team players, they will get better. i'm not sure Chelsea will though, I think things could go badly wrong for them this season.

Chelsea have some good young players but they won’t make the top 4 with that defence. It was nice to see them humped even if was Man Utd doing it.
Man Utd may have improved the defence (we’ll see how that centre back partnership develops though) but they are weak in midfield and I still don’t see them breaking into the top 4.
I agree with G on Arsenal. They will improve and I think their signings will make an impact.

fat frank is out of his depth. there's good reason previous managers didn't play their youth players. lampard will find that out over the coming months, with misguided trust in the likes of abraham and mount. the loss of hazard will prove to be monumental. chelsea have always prospered by throwing money at the team. with the transfer ban coupled with ff's naivety, they'll do well to finish mid-table, they really will.

Arsenal won't go anywhere fast either. agreed. a laboured win against the geordies is hardly reason for G to fist-pump. emery's football is bland.

Arsenal haven't invested in their defence in any serious way, which was their Achilles last season. I can't see them being better than United for 4th in all honesty.

Arsenal haven't invested in their defence in any serious way, which was their Achilles last season. luiz will be a disaster. He's underrated..always has been. He's an easy target because of his hair. He's actually a highly technical, accomplished defender. There is a slightly cavalier side to his game that occasionally gets him into trouble but nowhere near as much as the clichéd view of him suggests.

If Chelsea were willing to get rid of him for £8 million it suggests that either Arsenal know something they don't know or that he is past his best and not the player he once was.
I'm sure that at some point he will give an accomplished performance and at some point he will lose you 3 points.
And there's always Brazil 1 Germany 7 to take into consideration when defending or criticising Luiz. Possibly the most jaw dropping performance by any international player at a World Cup...
