They bought David Luiz, which says it all. There is not a single Arsenal defender that is good enough to play in any of the other Top 6 clubs. All talk of finishing in the top 4 is over until they improve upon it. It's not just the defence Toby. Apparently Arsenal have conceded more shots at goal this season than other club in Europe's top five leagues. That's a mind boggling statistic and shows we have no control over games at all. As poor as Luiz and Socratis have been, they're being left horribly exposed. Emery hasn't got what it takes as a coach, I've seen enough now to say that with total confidence. I didn't see the game, but I did read a lot of btl comments in the Guardian. Lot of people make the same points, that the midfield and attack simply don't defend, ANM rushes into attack and doesn't come back, Guendozi can go missing, Xakha is basically a lumbering liability, the goalie's confidence is shot and he's Sneezy reborn, and so on, but mainly they are complaining that Emery's apparent insistence on playing out from the back is all very well when you have players who are comfortable on the ball in defence, as Liverpool and to a lesser extent Spurs do, but not when you have error-prone klutzes at the back.

Actually Leno made three or four great saves, he's one of the few that come out of today's game with any credit. I've just read the transcript of Emery's post match interview, it makes very little sense so it's no surprise to me that the players seem baffled.

Yeah I saw that.
He had a promising start but it looks fucked now. The players look lost.

Watford don't seem to have recovered from the FA Cup Final at all.
Sheffield Utd are punching above their weight.
I've got a good feeling we can beat Man Utd tomorrow.

as i said on BCB, sssilva will be gone before OGS. I think so. He seemed to be getting it together in the second half of last season, but they seem to be going backward again. I don't think he knows his best team

on BCB skope said: Pickford is certainly a concern. A pumped-up, barrel-chested Joe Hart-esque character with a huge arse who is a weak link.

They'd be lucky to get Howe and I don't think he'd go there. Clubs need to be a bit more imaginative in their recruitment. Look at youngish coaches who have shown they can build something, can be innovative and develop an identifiable style of play and don't be scared to look in the Chamionship. It seems to me we are in a bit of a golden period for coaching in Europe, particularly in Germany and yet clubs continue to make the same kind of short term appointments from an expected list of names.

I don't think it's as simple as that though. Clubs with 'big' personalities and wage packets to match will have players who look down their noses at coaches who are relatively unknown. Sometimes a manager appointment is there to save the club from potentially being relegated so a long term view simply isnt possible.
As much as I don't think Everton are relegation potential, the fact is that every club outside the Top 6 only has to have a bad run and suddenly they're in trouble.
Silva strikes me as a slightly better and more urbane Pardew. He's good at setting his team up and running, but when they get unstuck, he cant solve the issue and fucks off.

YEs I think they need to get it all sorted and then you boys can watch some interesting games where men kick a ball around.

They'd be lucky to get Howe and I don't think he'd go there. he's a toffee fan. of course, he would. they'll pay him double his salary. an absolute horror show which i'm gleefully rubbing my hands to.
