Oh, there are whole Facebook groups devoted to Sainsbury's Design Studio, G. It's definitely 'a thing', as the kids say.
You must see the appeal, surely? the colours, the Helvetica font, the simplicity, the '7d'
Anyway the thread's supposed to be personal, so...

On Facebook, I follow a couple photo groups. San Francisco street photography and California photography. Some of the shots are magnificent.

There's all sorts of "deserted modern graphic design" (architecture, packaging, signage, logos, etc.) that just fills me up. You can see why all of these dead ideals get revived in other contexts (even something as sort of vacuous as Gay Dad seems like...they got some aspect of the graphic presentation correct).

I'm not going to say that I'm specifically "turned on" by this image, but it does fascinate me. Big, epic debut record - unarguably something of a portentous work, and look at the sort of pathologically modest rendering of artist and title. These font, size and color choices that you more or less have to squint to read. Something perversely confident about this approach - and the overall evocative nature of the whole thing taken as a whole (artwork, text, etc) really does bring to mind some overly specific moment in time...pediatric physicians puffing away on Kool cigarettes in the maternity ward, Volkswagen bugs that worked reliably enough, the divorce boom...

On the beautiful people thread, John mentions a 'beautiful things' thread. I guess this is it. Rather than create a thread for this I'll whack it here but it isn't a beautiful thing, it's a beautiful movement Bauhaus is 100 years old this year www.aestheticamagazine.com/celebrating-bauhaus/
