Pretty much all of these covers and more attest to a Glee-ification of music, our kids are nice, they want nice music, the songs all have good bones, nice kids can sing them nicely making nice music. Whilst most of the originators were not nice, crazed out of their heads most would have done bad things to both Grandma and grandpa, their three legged dog and random house plants all at once. The catch will be when these nice kids making nice music are found to have been bad (because there will be recorded evidence) then this will have all been for nought. Never seen Glee but good description so I get what you're saying. OK let's look at the original artists: Bennie and the Jets - Elton John. A very nice boy. Except when he's coked out of his noggin and throwing a hissy fit. Can't help falling in love - Elvis. Oh come on now, a very nice boy. Abused fried banana sandwiches but that's about it. Soul Kitchen - Doors. I think they were all pretty nice boys. Morrison, the son of a Rear Admiral. May have shown his willy on stage once but he was only trying to share. Don't let me down - The Beatles. We all know they were nice boys. Apart from John who was injudiciously sharp-tongued. Nice middle-class boy who tried to downplay it. And he loved his auntie. Rock the Kasbah - The Clash, written by Joe Strummer. Nice boy. Diplomat father but he tried to downplay it. Not one of them, as far as I know, so much as rearranged the hotel furniture. The covers are a bit twee, mind. Sometimes that's a ... nice thing.

I'd be interested what those in the UK think of Depp's cover as they have had to endure his court case.
If he wasn't Johnny Depp I don't think Beck would be collaborating. It's decent, but cures nothing, but encourages a star's vanity, though it is standard mawkish solo Beatle self involved twaddle or a Covid anthem, probably the same, probably both. Apparently Depp would be called out on Beck's recent tour to sing onstage, thus it should have been better. But, if Lennon rolls over in his grave at least one because of it, then well done.

Not many could do a good cover of an Aretha classic.
But oh yes, Prince and Chaka got it covered

Was play-grading this on an Alternative tentacles singe. I love the original but it's a great cover, in a more sedate Melt-Banana kind of way

I was listening to a Beatles at the BBC sessions and came across this. I love George's accent and John's call outs.

I really want to like these guys, they do such nice work, I always enjoy their videos, I just don't feel compelled to buy any of their stuff. Something is missing (que one of the Heathers to say, "shredding")

They don't sound the way I imagine robots doing 'Barracuda' would sound.

Two covers of the same song roughly from the same era. IMO Mule's does work, BK's doesn't.
