Definitely the last great thing they did, I think we could all name ten GREAT Stones' tracks that came later This bit of we would be hard-pressed to remember ten Stones tracks that came later

It's a beautiful song, one of the very rare occasions Jagger attempts sincerity and gets it right. It is amazing how differently we hear these things. I think there was a Stones thread here a while back where I said (regarding "Angie") something like "Has Jagger ever sounded LESS sincere than he does here?"

Did you ever wake up to find A day that broke up your mind Destroyed your notion of circular time It's just that demon life has got you in its sway It's just that demon life has got you in its sway Ain't flinging tears out on the dusty ground For all my friends out on the burial ground Can't stand the feeling getting so brought down It's just that demon life has got me in its sway It's just that demon life has got me in its sway There must be ways to find out Love is the way they say is really strutting out Hey, hey, hey now One day I up to find Right in the bed next to mine Someone that broke me up with a corner of her smile, yeah It's just that demon life has got me in its sway It's just that demon life has got me in its sway It's just that demon life has got me in its sway It's just that demon life has got me It's just that demon life has got me

I think there was a Stones thread here a while back where I said (regarding "Angie") something like "Has Jagger ever sounded LESS sincere than he does here?" I'm not saying he sounds totally sincere, just that compared to his bawling on songs like 'Beast of Burden' or 'Wild Horses', he comes across as a touch more genuine. To me. The melody itself helps, of course. Jagger's always been the weakest link in the Stones as far as I'm concerned. I was pleased to read Baron saying something similar on a recent BCB thread. I like nearly all the Stones' songs (before around 1980) with Keith on vocals. This one, for instance, is an absolute peach:

Listening to Let It Bleed now. Convenient that the only two decent tracks are next to each other.

From the '80s on he's impressively close to being the compleat embarrassment. And he spent most of the '70s working on getting to that point. Get of here.Wild Horses is twice the track Angie is. Of course it is.

I considered making a Stones thread about 'Exile...' as I've been somewhat obsessed with it this past year. Had it for ages, but it somehow only clicked with me recently.
Anyway, I used the search function here and found this thread, which is fun.
My favorite from the album is 'Happy'.
As for 'Sticky Fingers' & "Sway", I've heard that one too often, I guess. Not bad, but played out.

I find the guitar riff pretty unmemorable too. written by jagger when the stones were discovering open 'G' tuning. such a great song. thanks for resurrecting this thread, wobblie.
