Forget these app gimmicks. Stick a post-it note on your fridge door next time. I used post it notes all the time but forgot. I was busy studying the london system.

I saw it last night and I thought it was terrific! It's very much a fan documentary - I mean they touch on every single Sparks album - but there is enough charm here for those only slightly familiar with the band or just curious about the Mael brothers to entertain (although it is pretty long). The brothers have always been something of an enigma and this peels back some of the layers but their mystique remains intact. Their life is their music and that's the touching thing about their story ultimately..brothers united in a pop goal who have ploughed their own furrow for decades with occasional moments when they have crossed over into the mainstream but more often than not they have remained gloriously weird outsiders. To see them have chart success at this junction has been moving you know and by the ending of the doc you can't help but experience a warm glow...talent, perseverance and integrity is rewarded in the music business sometimes.
Nice to also know that Russell shagged Jane Weidlin. Legend.

Nice title.
They'll be touring the UK again soon.
I have to say, there is something hugely admirable about their work ethic. They are not young men after all.

It's also very heart warming that this late in their career they've managed some kind of 3/4/5 wind and they've found, it seems, a newer and younger audience who appreciate them as well as the old guard.
When their album reached the UK top ten recently-ish they seemed genuinely touched and you really get that sense when you see them live. A real humbleness and gratitude to be able to still do what they clearly love with enthusiastic crowds who celebrate them. It's really some achievement and it's not as if the albums are shit. The last few have been good!
That documentary that came out was really quite touching. I'd recommend it to anybody.

AND they are still underrated. Ron Mael is one of the great, weird pop songwriters of all time.

Russell seemed genuinely knocked out by the response he got from the Newcastle crowd five years ago (mind you - they did go apeshit - probably the most enthusiastic audience I've ever seen for any gig). He stood there grinning, saying 'thank you' over and over. Such a gracious man. I'd see them again in a shot but I'm not going down to London for a gig.

wow. that snuck up on me. I noticed they are scheduled to play the Hollywood Bowl! opening act is They Might Be Giants.
If I wasn't still deathly afraid of Super-Spreaders I'd rob a liquor store, buy some tickets through Ticket Nazis and take a hostage to go with me.
I haven't seen 'em since the Angst in my Pants days.
