i'm not generally a fan of the genre, but this does seem like its bucking the trend.
i'll definitely see it. it does seem quite dark.

They're always a bit dark. Heath Ledger's joker was promoted as dark. I'd probably have more interest if they had fun with the character again, as it is I'm expecting the usual bombastic, convoluted empty film. Modern Hollywood is rubbish.

It's either family bollocks from Pixar or some ridiculous horror/sci-fi crap.

I'll go and see it because I really like Phoenix.
I've read some people stating that this will "change Hollywood". I'm not sure why, maybe just because it offers an alternative route for them to exploit comic book characters.
Considering it deals with a alienated outcast who turns psychopathic it could be both topical and challenging so let's see.

Let's face it, they'll never beat Jack Nicholson. This town needs an emema!

He wrote that it's sure to get a lot of accolades, but it may not be a movie that's right for the times, considering all the recent mass shootings. Made me think about the whole art reflecting life thing.

I keep seeing comparisons to Taxi Driver.
I’m not buying.

I heard a news item on CNN this morning - one of the 5 things I need to know to start my day (or so they told me) The FBI has reported that many threats of shooting violence have been issued to theaters where "Joker" is opening. they went on to say that none of the threats were credible.
let's chew on that for a minute. one of the 5 things I need to know today according to some News Editor or another is that threats that are deemed not credible are being made against a movie that is opening this weekend.
we live in some pretty weird times.

I liked it without thinking it was great or nuffink. It's not subtle but it's set in the comic book world so you're not expecting that. Phoenix is very good and has a real physicality. Some nice moments though and I liked the use of Glitter lol
There's been quite a strong backlash against this, partly down to initial reactions that were a bit ott perhaps but also some bollocks. He's a pitiful character in this version.

Unfortunately I have not watched this movie yet. But I already read a lot of recommendations and I will definitely look at it soon.

I haven't talked to anybody who merely liked it. they either loathed it or hailed it as brilliant. I'm looking forward to merely liking it out of sheer stubbornness.
