"Dear "Avanti""
As a long-standing and regular user of your service, I am frankly appalled to find that you are no longer offering free food to your first class customers. This is a disgrace. The first-class customer is the very backbone of your clientele, and if you are not offering the bare minimum service to them, then I don't even want to know what you are offering to customers in second class and beyond. I suspect you'd try to package priced air if you could.
Please improve your service molto rapidamente otherwise I shall be taking my complaint to the rail ombudsman FORTHWITH.
Yours sincerely,
Colonel John Coan Massive Mansion in Whitehaven Shyte-on-Sea

Travelling first class is morally wrong.

Ha ha!
It might actually be worth a shot. I seem to be complaining about trains every time I use the fucking things.

Travelling first class is morally wrong. Travelling by car is always worse.

Travelling first class is morally wrong. If the fees made from First Class travel improve the conditions of Second travel then I see no issue with it.

I see nothing morally problematic in a free hand job.

It should go one way or the other though. The rail industry should either be owned and funded by the government, or it should be private without subsidies. Isn't one of the problems with privatisation (well at least for those who care) is that private companies get the profits but are heavily subsidised by the government to keep the public transport going on the many non-profitable routes. Milked heavily by gobshites like Branson. Fully acceptable to those on the right, of course. Anyone want to travel around the UK (and maybe Europe) with me by train? Already done it. At least the British part - I bought a 'Britrail' pass when I was I Australia but this was back in the 80s. Had a great time. Went up as far as Orkney and as far west (from Kent) as Cornwall - sometimes I'd get to the station and decide there and the where to go. Had a wonderful time, exploring Britain, cities and towns and coast, and watching the world from the train. I highly recommend it. Didn't do that for Europe as there was a time limit on those kinds of tickets and I wanted to spend more time in places in Europe but I have done a lot of train travel there. Fabulously cheap to do in Italy, been all over including around Sicily - if you know anyone in Switzerland butter them up and they might get you cheaper travel there, it's stunning and there's a Chocolate Train from Montreux.

I see nothing morally problematic in a free hand job. ah, if you're not going to use your hands, how are you going to do the job on yourself?

I have friends across the water who can't get their head around the fact if you're on a long journey, it's cheaper to buy separate tickets from town to town to your destination, instead of just one ticket to your destination. Is that really a thing over there?

Yeah, there are apps that help you with 'split trains' (I think it's called).
Honestly, I could talk about the state of trains in the UK for hours. I won't. But they're an absolute disgrace.

That's a weird, i'm assuming the UK Rail know this is happening. They probably have stats to justify to keep it that way, would love to know what it is if they do.

I seem to be complaining about trains every time I use the fucking things. this is the beauty and the importance of complaining. nothing will be done about it but you've done what YOU can - you've complained about it!
we all need to do our part.
