the Police ... not to mention how 'muso' they were as a band). That may be but if rock is more your preference and all that. Andy Summers had a very interesting pre-Police career. Still a little shagnasty.

The Steve Carlton of rock. Not at the same quality level at their best, but that's kinda the idea, yeah. I'd go with the Jamie Moyer of rock. I was going to cite "Bert Blyleven," but I knew that would get your goat. I like that the three of us can use baseball players as an analogy and none of our UK brethren know who the hell we're referring to. Like when they refer to Snoots McGiven, or whomever, from a UK '60s sitcom as an in joke.

I love several of the Police's singles, but never really loved them as a band. I respect their talents though, just never became "my" band.

I listened to Regatta De Blanc just yesterday (skipping "On Any Other Day", of course) and enjoyed it muchly, so I'll give the blondes a boost here.

Aerosmith are a stinky band. A dreadful relic of the 70s that hung around for far, far too long. Like some vulgar little STD you picked up in 1974.
I'm not a fan of the Police but I can recognise that they were really good musicians who could write a song. Like a proper song. Every Breath You Take and a few others are pretty undeniable as hit records but they are unloveable and bland. Not because they're, yawn, musos, but because I don't get much sense of self from their records. What is their identity? Who were they? What is A STING?

I voted Police.
Copeland’s a great drummer.
Still like Aerosmith though.

I voted Aerosmith because there are the early songs I still genuinely like. As a kid we used to laugh and laugh about "Rag Doll" from the later era, probably because of the ridiculously juvenile video.
I feel like I'm shortchanging the Police, but I can't bring myself to actually play one of their albums to reassess.

I'm with David Q - Oh Sting, where is thy death?
But there are a handful of reasonable early tunes.
Whereas Aerosmith are unforgivably, unredeemable, predictable cock-rock of the worst kind.

Cock-rock is so underappreciated.
