I suppose this is a few weeks too late for this thread, but seeing as the forum just started a few weeks ago, I figure it should get a pass.
So... I'll show you mine, if you show me yours? Here, in no particular order, are albums from this year that I really loved, with one line of commentary about each.
nolamike's Favorite 2018 Albums:
Courtney Barnett, Tell Me How You Really Feel (Not as good as her debut, but still excellent)
Yo La Tengo, There's a Riot Going On (The mellowest of their career; I really started to live inside it after a few listens)
Hinds, I Don't Run (This band has been a recent obsession of mine; lo-fi and hooky, with gloriously off-kilter vocals)
boygenius, s/t ep (As far as "supergroup" projects go, this one really works)
Julia Holter, Aviary (Double album of experimental chamber pop)
Low, Double Negative (A major left turn for them, entailing a shifting electronic soundscape)
Spiritualized, And Nothing Hurt (Their best in at least fifteen years)
Snail Mail, Lush (The "it" singer-songwriter of the year, who actually lives up to the hype)
John Coltrane, Both Directions at Once (Lost 1963 record that only saw the light of day this year; it's great)
Legendary Marvin Pontiac, Greatest Hits (If only because I'm a massive fan of John Lurie, and it appeared he would never make music again due to his health woes, making this an unexpected treat)
Jerusalem In My Heart, Daqa'iq Tudaiq (Interesting blend of Arabic and electronic music)
Christina Vantzou, No. 4 (Modern classical/electronic soundscapes).
Lead, s/t (Experimental soundscapes, by a duo from Oz)
Dedekind Cut, Tahoe (Experimental ambient - or, less charitably, slightly aggressive new age)
Kitten Forever, Semi-Permanent (Minimalist-but-noisy drum-and-bass punk rock trio)

I didn't get an awful lot:
1. Current 93 - The Light Is Leaving Us All 2. Sons of Kemet - Your Queen is a Reptile 3. Sink Ya Teeth - Sink Ya Teeth 4. Lana Del Rabies - Shadow World 5. Marissa Nadler - For My Crimes 6. Oneohtrix Point Never - Age Of 7. Zu93 - Mirror Emperor 8. Jon Hopkins - Singularity 9. The Ex - 27 Passports 10. Typhoon - Offerings
Those last two albums are particularly poor, btw, The Ex partly for being so disappointing after the excellence of Catch My Shoe, Typhoon for being given to me free and still feeling like a rip-off.
Oh, yeah, and I did get that John Coltrane album, but it doesn't feel right to include it in a best of 2018 list, so I didn't. I think it would be the new no 4 in my list.

5. Marissa Nadler - For My Crimes I'd forgotten about this one - it's quite good! I also hadn't stumbled across the existence of the new Jon Hopkins, so thanks for tipping me off - I'm going to give it a listen this afternoon.

It's not great, especially compared to Immunity, which is one of my favourite albums of the last few years. It's got two monster tracks in "Everything Connected" and "Luminous Beings", but the rest is pretty much filler.

The Bobbie Gentry box is great. So is the White Album one. I like the Father John Misty one pretty well, but it's his worst so far under that moniker. I like about a third of the John Grant a lot.
That is all.

That is all. I've been mighty tempted by the Bobbie Gentry box; I already have all of her official releases, but getting the outtakes (and remastered versions of the albums) seems like it would be worthwhile. I had interest in the White Album box, but realized that it probably wouldn't get enough play for me to justify my getting it right now. I think I've got a bit of Beatles burnout (though I recently have been trying to assemble Spotify playlist versions of the Beatles albums, assembled from cover versions of the songs). I just cannot stomach Father John Misty at all; his stuff is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

I thought the Hot Snakes and Idles albums were both very good, but haven't really been in the headspace for that kind of aggressive guitar-based rock lately, so haven't really given either as much time as I should.

In 2018 the championship belt for most unabashed saccharine catchiness has to go to Kim Petras. The lyrics don't always rhyme or make sense and the hooks are often way over the top, but she delivers the pop content better than anyone out there. If the production team could have dumped the rapper middle-eight on a few of them it would've been an even better run.
Plus, there was an absolutely throwaway Halloween album that has all sorts of critical flaws. I find it absolutely enjoyable.
